FAQ

Please note that the information below is based on past experience.

How to get to the Parade in Moscow?

You can get to Red Square for rehearsals and the Parade only by personal invitation. You cannot buy invitation cards - they are distributed among veterans and their accompanying persons, civil servants, senior military officials, and media representatives.

If you don’t have an invitation ticket to the 2019 Parade, you can look at the aircraft and columns of military equipment on the streets of Moscow during rehearsals or on Victory Day on May 9 before or after their passage through Red Square.

Where can you look at military equipment?

A calmer and more correct option is to look at the tanks, armored personnel carriers and Iskanders on the streets of Moscow during evening training or the morning dress rehearsal.

For example, on the section of Tverskaya street between Pushkinskaya metro station and Okhotny Ryad metro station in the evening, starting from 18-45 - approximately at this time the column lines up along Tverskaya, and you can observe the equipment in motion. The equipment will remain stationary until 22-35, and then move to Red Square - this is a second chance to see how combat vehicles drive.

Do not stand near the metro exits - walk at least 200 meters along the street so as not to jostle in the crowd.

At the Dress Rehearsal on May 7, in terms of time and movements, everything will be exactly the same as on Victory Day.

If you definitely want to see the tanks on May 9, choose a place along the entire route to the Parade, except for the section of Tverskaya Street from Pushkinskaya Square to Manezhka - on May 9 (and possibly during the Dress Rehearsal) it will be blocked along with the adjacent lanes, get close will not work. Manezhnaya Square, Kremlin Embankment and, of course, Red Square will also be closed.

Be prepared for the fact that on Victory Day, especially a lot of people will gather along the route, especially closer to the center - good places need to be occupied much in advance - an hour or two before the vehicles pass. The view may be obstructed by reserve military equipment, cleaning and watering vehicles that are lined up waiting for the end of the event, as well as fencing.

During the movement of equipment, underground passages are blocked for safety reasons.

Where to watch aviation?

Aviation is clearly visible from many points: planes and helicopters will fly closer to the end of the Parade - at 10.45 - 10.55 over Leningradsky Prospekt, 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya, Tverskaya Street, Red Square, Raushskaya Embankment and then to the airfields. They fly over the even side of houses, so it is better to observe them from the odd side of the streets. On 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya and Tverskaya, the view may be limited to tall buildings.

An excellent place where you can see and photograph aviation against the backdrop of St. Basil's Cathedral is Raushskaya embankment; it is usually not blocked during rehearsals. It is unknown whether the embankment will be closed on May 9.

The planes do not fly strictly over Red Square, but a little to the side - over GUM, so that they can be better seen by the spectators gathered on Red Square.

Where can you see the soldiers taking part in the Parade?

Unfortunately, it will not be possible to see the entire walking part. Both during rehearsals and on May 9, foot columns usually approach Red Square in several ways: from Kotelniki along the embankment, along Varvarka and along Ilyinka. The streets and alleys closest to them will be blocked, but perhaps something can be seen from the Bolshoi Ustinsky Bridge.

From afar, across the Moscow River, the parade units on Vasilievsky Spusk are visible from Sofiyskaya Embankment, unless it is blocked. It is better to take a seat early, as there are usually a lot of people interested. The Kremlin embankment, Bolshoi Moskvoretsky and Bolshoi Kamenny bridges will be closed.

P.S. Many thanks to Alexey and all the commentators from previous years - based on your information, I have supplemented this article.

Comments from previous years about the Dress Rehearsal:

From the Smolenskaya metro station on the blue line we arrived at New Arbat at 10.30, almost to the House of Books, but remained on the odd side (the sun behind us). At 10.35 the traffic stopped completely; a couple of minutes later the limousines of the parade host and the parade commander passed by. Then a column of equipment began to march: banners, commanders - everyone was nearby, apparently some were responding to our greetings. At 10.45, a helicopter group is visible in the alignment of the avenue, and then between the houses (to the left of the House of Books) - all the planes. The passage of equipment ended at 11.20. Then we started harvesting with a wedge and watering with a 2nd wedge.

We reached Novokuznetskaya. We crossed the Ustinsky Bridge (10-15 minutes). There is no one on the bridge (around 9.00). Foot boxes began to come out around 10.40 with songs and flags. Very beautiful. There were already a lot of people standing on the bridge, but the view from there was beautiful. We filmed from the embankment and behind the bridge near the high-rise building, because we wanted to photograph our son (he is a participant in the parade). Suddenly, planes and helicopters flew right above us (at about 11.00), which we did not expect, since we thought that they would fly from the Kremlin directly across the river. A very beautiful sight!

We were at the dress rehearsal yesterday. First, we watched the movement of vehicles at the intersection of the Boulevard Ring with Tverskaya Street (from the side of Pushkinskaya Square inside the ring), and then we walked along the ring to the Bolshoi Ustinsky Bridge.

There were a lot of people on the outer and inner sides of the ring, but in the middle it was very free and you could choose a place to view equipment.

Everything has been said above about the Bolshoi Ustinsky Bridge - I can only confirm that this is the best place to view pedestrian columns after the Spasskaya Tower. And for aviation, I think this is the best point, since the entire fleet is flying at you, and above you the helicopters go to the left, and the planes go to the right.

Since we were walking along the ring with two children, we almost missed the movement of foot columns to Red Square. If we had gone by car (the ring from Terskaya to the Bolshoi Ustinsky Bridge was free from both traffic police officers and vehicles), we would also have seen the formation of foot columns. This will not work at the parade itself, since according to the cordon employees (officers), the entire Tverskaya will be “cleared” of people and observation from it will be impossible. I don’t know about the bridge, but at the exit of pedestrian columns it is blocked for vehicles and all lanes are available for pedestrian traffic. Naturally, you won’t be able to see foot columns from the roadway, but aviation will be in all its glory

Happy Victory Day everyone!!!

Victory Parade 2018 in Moscow: watch online Victory Parade on Red Square

You can watch the parade on Red Square itself, but you can only get there with invitation cards. Invitations are issued to citizens of the following categories - politicians, civil servants, veterans, military personnel and journalists.

If you don’t have an invitation card, the easiest way to watch the Victory Parade is on TV, sitting comfortably in a chair - federal channels will show a live broadcast.

Muscovites and guests of the capital will also have the opportunity to examine military equipment live along the route of the column.

The route of movement of the equipment is already known. At the general rehearsal, which took place on May 6 with the participation of walking parade crews and equipment (aircraft did not fly over Moscow due to low clouds), in terms of time and movements everything will be exactly the same as on Victory Day.

All equipment for the Victory Parade, as usual, will be stationed in a vacant lot along Nizhnie Mnevniki Street, from there the column will begin moving towards Red Square at 6:00 Moscow time.

The column will drive along Zvenigorodskoye Highway, turn onto the Garden Ring, and from there along Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street to Tverskaya. There will be a stop here - you can approach the cars and take photos

Military equipment can also be seen on the return route, but along a different route - the column will return along Vasilievsky Spusk, through the Kremlin embankment, Vozdvizhenka street and Novy Arbat, with a turn to the Garden Ring and Zvenigorodskoe highway. Please note that the last vehicles leave Red Square at approximately 10:50.

In order to see the equipment on Victory Day, you can choose any place along the entire parade route, except for the section of Tverskaya Street from Pushkinskaya to Manezhnaya Square, which, together with the Kremlin Embankment and Red Square, will be closed.

There will most likely be a lot of people wanting to look at military equipment, so you need to “book” the best places in advance, a couple of hours before the passing of the equipment.

Aviation is clearly visible from many sides - planes and helicopters will fly closer to the end of the parade - at 10.45–10.55 over Leningradsky Prospekt, 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street, Tverskaya streets, Red Square, Payshskaya embankment and further - to the airfields.

It is better to observe planes and helicopters from the odd-numbered side of the streets, as they fly over the even-numbered side of the houses. On 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street and Tverskaya the view may be limited to tall buildings. A great place where you can see and photograph aviation against the backdrop of St. Basil's Cathedral is Payshskaya Embankment.

The planes do not fly directly above Krasnaya Square, but slightly to the side - above GUM, so that they are better visible to the spectators gathered on Krasnaya Square.

Muscovites and guests of the capital will be able to take part in other festive events dedicated to Victory Day, including thematic programs on Poklonnaya Hill, in pedestrian zones, boulevards, in cultural and recreational parks.
