I will not reveal a secret if I say that children love to draw. Draw to everyone and on everything. And it is not so important whether it will be a pencil or felt-tip pen, brush or chalk, the main thing is to create their own masterpiece, which they are happy to show to the household.

If the process of drawing itself is magical, unusual, unconventional, there will be no boundaries for the child's joy.

Nowadays, many children are characterized by a lack of self-confidence, poorly developed imagination, and lack of independence. The child is afraid to draw, it seems to him that he will not succeed, because he is afraid to mix paints, he often uses an eraser, in coloring pages he cannot always shade in a given contour.

This problem can be solved by offering non-traditional drawing methods, allowing you to feel positive emotions both from the process itself and from the result.

Today I want to introduce you to an unusual technique - painting with a candle. It delights children by captivating the effect of the appearance of an image on a sheet of paper. I watched with pleasure how the guys in the classroom, holding their breath, looked at the drawings, and when something appeared on the sheet, there was an explosion of emotions in the group from what they saw.

Such activities can be called fabulous, because the child does not see what he is doing at the beginning of work, and then the drawing miraculously manifests itself. This technique is a kind of game that brings positive emotions. It does not tire, children remain highly active and efficient during the lesson.

How to draw with a candle?

The technique is absolutely uncomplicated.

For work you will need:

1. A candle or wax crayons.

2. Watercolor or ink.

3. A blank sheet of paper.

4. Wide brush or sponge.

First, you need to draw a drawing with a candle on a blank sheet of paper, warning the child that nothing will be visible at that moment.

In this technique, you can draw from 3 years old. You can offer to make drawings on various topics. It can be "Starry sky", "Snowflakes", "Fireworks", "Camomile", "Frosty pattern on the window", "Fairy forest", etc.

You can draw not only with a candle, but also with wax pencils, the effect will be the same. Since children do not know about the water repelling property of wax, this method of drawing seems magical to them.

For the image to appear, you need to dip a wide brush or sponge in paint or ink and cover the sheet with large strokes. The drawing will appear as if by magic! Once dry, it can be refilled with felt-tip pens or markers.

This technique gives confidence in working with paint, develops imagination, fine motor skills, which is very important for children of preschool and primary school age.

Unconventional drawing is the basis of many art therapy techniques, it allows you to overcome the feeling of fear, instills self-confidence, and gives freedom of expression.

goal : to introduce this technique and teach how to perform work in this technique.

Tasks : - to acquaint with the technique "wax crayons + watercolors", to teach to convey the beauty of the world around, using this technique;

Continue to form in children a steady interest in art, develop creative imagination;

Development of creative imagination, fantasy, memory, eye;

To foster creative independence, activity; to familiarize with the beauty of nature.

Wax crayons (oil pastels) are one of the best materials for drawing, which is distinguished not only by a wide range of creative possibilities, but also by the safety of their use by children. They can draw from a young age (for babies, large triangular). The main advantage of wax crayons (oil pastels) in preparation for a lesson is no need to sharpen!

The technique of working with crayons and watercolors is very simple, but effective. At first glance, it seems that the two materials are incompatible, as wax repels water. But it is precisely this property that allows you to achieve amazing results - paintings painted with wax crayons and watercolors are unusually expressive.

There are no special secrets in this technique: first you need to draw a "wax" picture, and then paint over it with watercolor paint. Watercolor rolls off a greasy pastel stroke and remains only on a clean sheet. The drawing that appears is very bright, all strokes and lines are visible. The only wish is that the paper should be special, that is, intended for painting with watercolors, since an ordinary landscape sheet from moisture can deform, swelling with waves. "Incoming drawing" - the drawing appears, as it were, appears.

Drawing unconventional way with a candle andwatercolors arouses interest in children and is liked by adults. The result is not always predictable, but through trial and error, the skill of the image is developed. Children especially like the very process of unexpectedness of the latent image manifestation. Suchtechnics promotes the development of interest in the properties of materials, forms the skills of working withwatercolor, contributes to the formation of a sense of color (the ability to select colors in combination, technical visual skills, develops imagination, contributes to the education of observation and interest in native nature.

Painting with wax crayons and watercolors is a mixed technique of painting with watercolors and wax. It does not require special skills and at the same time creates a very striking effect, thanks to which it has become widespread in children's creativity. However, it can be used in more complex designs for decorative purposes or as an addition to your painting.

The essence of the technique is to apply wax lines on top of which watercolor is placed. Areas with wax are not painted over, due to which the effect of "glow" of the picture is created. The handiness of the materials used is good in this technique: wax crayons can be taken from a children's kit, and sometimes even candle wax can be used; you can also take the simplest watercolor.

When drawing with wax crayons, it is important to understand that it is not easy to make a thin line due to the nature of the material, therefore it is more convenient to use large and generalized contours. Usually, this technique is used to paint still lifes, flowers, fish, etc. Wax lines are difficult to superimpose and cannot be erased without leaving stains, which prevents complex effects, but at the same time maintains the brightness and purity of the pattern.

Necessary materials

  • simple pencil
  • wax crayons (one or more colors; can be replaced with a candle)
  • watercolor (does not matter, childish or professional)
  • wide brush (to fill the background)
  • thin brush (if you need to draw small details)
  • paper (it is more convenient to use thick paper, but you can also use ordinary A4 sheets. It is better to choose paper without strong roughness, so that the wax lays down better)
    draft sheets

Which paper should you choose?

Before we start writing a drawing with wax crayons and watercolors, let's explain some of the features of watercolor paper. This can be important if you are looking for a specific effect.

There are two types of watercolor paper: cold and hot pressure. Coarse cold-pressure paper is rougher and therefore the line is uneven. In addition, to make it brighter, you have to press harder on the chalk. This effect in painting is well suited for conveying glare on water or a glow effect.

On hot press paper, the texture does not appear as much, and the drawing looks smoother and more crisp.

Preparatory stage

It would be nice to fix a sheet of paper on a tablet, table or some other surface with tape. This is not necessary, but this will make the paper less bumpy (especially true for simple printed sheets).

Drawing with crayons and watercolors is a technique that is best tried out on paper first in order to adapt to it.

Prepare a draft. Draw simple and wavy lines, patterns of different colors with wax crayons (white crayon in the photo in the foreground). See how tightly the wax fits on the surface of the sheet and how hard you need to press on the pencil (if it is bumpy, you may have to walk several times to get a solid line). Then paint over the lines with watercolor.

With colored crayons, it is better to use paint colors that are contrasting to them, do not select monochromatic ones so that the crayon stands out brighter. For example, if you chose yellow, it is better to use blue watercolor, black, etc.

Wait for the paint to dry and see what happens. As you can see, the white crayon creates the feeling of a masking liquid (which can be used as a life hack), the colored crayons are a little bit, but rubbed and mixed with the paint. See what you got.

The main stage of work

After a little experiment, we have a rough idea of \u200b\u200bwhat will turn out in practice. Now let's get down to the main stage.

  1. First of all, you need to draw the outline of the drawing with a simple pencil. It is best not to skip this step as it is difficult to erase the wax line. Then in the right places we circle the pencil lines with wax.
  2. Next, paint over the areas you need with watercolor flowers.
  3. After that, you can continue to work with layers, apply other colors, create volume using shadows. The example shows that the yellow crayon is "lost" against the background of the paint, but it may be different for you. When the work is dry, you can again circle some parts with wax crayon.

As you can see, the technique is really simple to perform and at the same time gives an expressive effect.

Drawing with children

The technique of painting with wax crayons (candle) and watercolors is well suited for creating illustrations and crafts with children. We offer several ideas for drawing with wax crayons and watercolors:

  • Underwater scene with fish... You can use brightly colored crayons and blue watercolors.
  • Sky with clouds and birds... Use white crayon for clouds, brown, black or other colors for birds (you can also paint tree branches) and blue paint for the sky.
  • Fireworks... Use different bright crayons for fireworks and black watercolor for the night sky.
  • Secret note... Write a secret message on a piece of paper with white chalk and then ask your child or friend to paint over it with dark paint.
  • Craft "Stained glass"... Suitable even for small children. To do this, it is enough to draw abstract patterns with different wax crayons and cover with watercolors on top. Then the drawing can be framed or, as in this case, pasted on the door glass, and you get an independent decoration, for example, for a birthday.

An auxiliary technique in painting

Wax crayons can be used for different purposes: for creating crafts, decorative effects, or as an auxiliary material in painting. We have considered the first two options, and now let's talk about the third.

This option is convenient in plein air painting when there is no time to wait for the paint to dry completely. Chalk can be applied to light areas and feel free to write over them with other colors, without fear of "drowning out" the bright color.

To keep the wax from standing out, you need to use it a little. For example, in this picture you can't even immediately understand where the wax strokes are applied.

Using paraffin instead of wax crayons

If you do not have wax crayons, then paraffin wax can be substituted. The effect will be very similar. The only thing is, you will be limited in terms of color.

We hope that you have discovered something new for yourself and that drawing with crayons and watercolors will bring you pleasure!

It seems that contemporary art is, first of all, an "arms race". Everyone competes not only in skill and quality of performance, but also in how, where and from what to create their new masterpieces.

And if some attempts cause at best a slight smile or bewilderment, then others are really impressive, or at least cause genuine interest.

Candle painting

This time it will be about French-Canadian artist Steven Spazuk, who also could not keep his creative imagination within the proposed framework and tried a new kind of painting art - drawing with a candle and watercolors.

Immediately, somehow involuntarily, associations emerge with the old Soviet entrances, where on the ceilings one could find many "creations" by fire, or rather matches or butts, but there really is something to see.

The pictures are beautiful. And most importantly, they are in most cases unpredictable. After all, fire is not the most malleable element, but very wayward even in matters of creativity, and it is simply impossible to plan the thickness of lines and strokes with an accuracy of a centimeter. Therefore, the artist invents in his imagination only a general direction, a theme, and the candle and paper already create their own art.

Therefore, not only the works themselves are interesting, but also the technique of drawing with a candle itself - it is too unconventional and interesting.

Prophetic vision

Thanks to the unusual method of applying images, the paintings look as if shrouded in a mysterious haze. It is more like a dream - the same one in which, according to the artist, they received a hint from higher powers about what to do.

Stephen said that in that prophetic vision, he walked through an amazing art gallery created with fire, gradually realizing exactly how he was going to work. 14 years have passed since then, and the artist has received recognition all over the world. His works, painted by a candle, delight and inspire lovers of everything unusual and beautiful, they are confirmation that not everything has yet been created and invented - maybe, for us, the higher powers will one day find a good proposal.

Drawing with wax and watercolors. Painting technique

All children love to draw and create their own masterpieces. Today we will tell you about the magical, unusual, unconventional painting with wax and watercolors on paper and we assure you that your child will be infinitely happy that everything will work out for him and he will probably want to show off his drawing.

Today we introduce you to an unusual technique - drawing with a candle... Such a drawing technique usually delights children, bewitching the final effect of the appearance of the image on a sheet of paper. Drawing in this technique gives the child confidence in working with paint, develops imagination, fine motor skills, which is very important for children of preschool and primary school age. This is even a kind of game that does not tire the kids, but on the contrary gives them positive emotions.

Drawing with a candle

First you need to draw a drawing with a candle on a white sheet of paper. Take a piece of the candle and create the outline of the future drawing. By the way, you can draw not only with a candle, but also with wax pencils, the effect will be the same. Since children do not know about the property of wax to repel water, for them this way of drawing will seem magical and incredible.

To make it easier to create a sketch, before moving on to the second step of work - drawing with watercolors, you can invite your kid to first draw a drawing with a simple pencil, and only then trace it around the contour with a candle. And you can simplify the task even more - take a regular coloring and circle it around the contour with a piece of wax or a candle.

We invite you to look at our heading and choose the drawing that your baby will like best.

Drawing with a candle

Next, we will paint with watercolors. It is better to use darker watercolor colors: blue, black, purple, so the effect will be more noticeable. We take more paints, but less water. We take a wide brush, dip it in watercolor paint or gouache and cover a sheet of paper with large strokes. The paint will slide off the created outline, as the wax from which the candle is made is oily. The drawing will appear as if by magic!

Drawing with a candle

After the drawing has dried, you can additionally draw some elements using felt-tip pens or markers.

For your information: now many children are characterized by a lack of self-confidence, a poorly developed imagination, and lack of independence. The child is afraid to do something and create on his own, it seems to him that he will not succeed. But the work carried out in the kindergarten, performed in this drawing technique, showed a very positive dynamics in the psychological mood of the kids.

Here's what the specialist says:

“I watched with pleasure how the guys in our classes, holding their breath, looked at their drawings and when something appeared on the sheet, there was an explosion of emotions in the group from what they saw.”

Let your child feel positive emotions both from the process itself and from the result of painting with wax!
