controlled ships. Ship management. Conducting combat operations

The sea line is a huge, well-oiled single mechanism, on the correct operation of which the comfort and safety of passengers and timely arrival at the port of destination depend. It is no coincidence that safety on board is given a special place, which is why entry into technical areas is prohibited for ordinary passengers. But you must admit, it is always interesting to look where it is impossible and at least with one eye to see how it works. Let's try to slightly open the veil of secrecy and visit the holy of holies of the sea ferry - the captain's bridge - the place where the floating house is controlled. Thanks to ST.PETER LINE, we have such an opportunity on the example of the Princess Anastasia ferry.

2. The ship "Princess Anastasia" was built in 1985 at the shipyard "Värtsilä" (Wärtsilä) in Finland by order of Viking Line. It was launched in 1986 and originally had the name "Olimpia", under which it made regular flights on the route Helsinki - Stockholm. In 1993, the ship was sold, renamed "Pride of Bilbao" and sent to work in the Bahamas, where it worked until 2010 until the closure of the owner company. In the same year, the ship was bought by the ST.PETER LINE ferry company and renamed again, now "Princess Anastasia" in honor of the youngest daughter of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II - Grand Duchess Anastasia.

3. In January 2011, "Princess Anastasia" was modified and began to run on a weekly route that connected the countries of the Baltic Sea: St. Petersburg - Tallinn - Stockholm - St. Petersburg - Helsinki - Stockholm - Tallinn - St. Petersburg. On the route of the ST.PETER LINE company, the vessel sails under the flag of Malta. The crew of the ship, as befits an international vessel, is also international, consisting of representatives of various countries, including Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Finland and Russia. The crew is divided into areas of activity. Someone ensures the comfort of passengers, someone is responsible for uninterrupted power supply, someone monitors the serviceability of the ship's systems and mechanisms, but the most interesting thing happens on the captain's bridge. This is what the brain center of the ship looks like. A real mission control center. There are two rows of dashboards at once. The first row is assembled from navigational instruments, and the second contains the controls for the ship's systems.

4. To get here, you need to go through several narrow service corridors and climb several levels up to the 11th deck - the uppermost deck of the ship. This is where the control cabin is located, which is a very spacious room, stretched from side to side and glazed around the entire perimeter to achieve maximum visibility. For even greater visibility, in particular for the convenience of mooring, the side parts of the deckhouse protrude slightly beyond the borders of the sides and seem to hang over them.

The vessel "Princess Anastasia" is not just a sea ship - it is a sea ferry capable of transporting about 2,500 people in 834 cabins and 580 cars in the hold. The maximum displacement of the ship is 4,000 tons, and in order to move this steel giant, four engines with a total capacity of 31,000 hp are installed on the ship, accelerating the ship to 22 knots (approximately 40 km / h).

5. The best view, of course, from the cabin. Only from here you can see what is on the course of the ship. A slightly similar view opens from the restaurant on the sixth deck, but the view is noticeably less there.

6. Or this view of the stern of the ship. Also very informative.

7. On the territory of the ship and the king and god - the captain of the ship. It is he who gives all the orders, it is he who controls everything that happens in the wheelhouse and on the ship as a whole, and it is he who bears all responsibility for the ship, its crew and passengers. A big responsibility to be sure. That is why the highest demands are placed on the professional qualities of the crew members and especially the captain.

8. Meet the captain of the ferry "Princess Anastasia" Richardas Maksimavichus. Born in 1975 in Lithuania in the city of Klaipeda. He graduated from the Klaipeda Maritime University, which gave the shipping industry many excellent specialists, and in 1998 he began his maritime career as an assistant captain. At the same time, he continued his studies, graduated from the magistracy and began teaching and research activities. Currently, Richardas, in his early 40s, is a PhD and assistant professor of shipping and navigation at his home university. In 2010, Richardas Masimavichus received the vessel "Princess Anastasia" in Klaipeda. By the way, an interesting fact "Princess Anastasia" has a license for pilotless passage to all ports of the route: St. Petersburg - Helsinki - Stockholm - Tallinn. Richardas has personally been trained and has the appropriate certificates, separately for each port, which allows you not to use the services of a pilot and save time and money, subject to annual confirmation of qualifications.

Capt. Richardas Maksimavichus is in charge of the entire crew of the vessel, including 40 members of the "progressive" crew and about 200 people engaged in passenger service. Everyone works as a watchman. The entire crew of the ship changes approximately every 16-20 days.

9. From the practice of maritime navigation, the port is the most dangerous area for navigation, and just for this reason, the presence of the captain on the bridge during the maneuvering, mooring or unmooring of the ship, as well as its passage through the narrowness up to the exit to the coastal zone, is strictly necessary. The captain personally manages the whole process at these moments. In particular, during mooring, the captain is in the lateral removal of the wheelhouse, the corresponding side, and from there controls the process of approaching the berth.

10. For these operations, workplaces are equipped in both parts of the cabin, where the main controls of the ship are installed.

11. The cabin is replete with various instruments and controls for all means of the ship. Some instruments have been installed here since the ship was built and look already rather shabby, and some are completely outdated, but nevertheless, any ultra-modern navigation aid is not immune from breakage or error, and the presence of old proven alternatives is often simply necessary, and sometimes mandatory. For example, modern GPS satellite positioning tools, which by their appearance have made a real revolution in navigation and with which any modern vessel is equipped, including the Princess Anastasia, like all electronic means, have a global weak link - dependence on electricity. Of course, mobile GPS navigators, which are also on board, can come to the aid of broken stationary chartplotters, but they are also not 100% reliable. For example, there was once a case when one ship got into a thunderstorm and received a strong lightning strike right into the hull, which caused all electrical appliances to fail, even those that were turned off. Only the magnetic compass remained alive, which in no way depends on electricity. But sailors are trained people. Having determined their location in an old-fashioned way, they safely reached the nearest port on the map for troubleshooting.

12.

13. But progress is progress, so GPS systems in combination with electronic chartplotters containing detailed scaled maps of the navigation area are an incredible help to sailors. Systems usually contain at least two GPS receivers, which allow you to determine the position of the vessel with an accuracy of centimeters, which is extremely important when driving in narrow spaces, especially in conditions of poor visibility, for example, which happen quite often in the North Sea. By the way, there should also be at least two compasses on the ship. Just in case.

14. But chartplotters are used for observation - determining the position of the vessel, and the ship's helmsman steers it along one compass in accordance with a given course. His workplace looks rather laconic and is designed in the old traditional style. On a modern ship, the steering wheel was left with a classic wooden one. By the way, the cord on the steering wheel marks the central position of the steering wheel. Steering wheel control has one significant drawback. It does not have any feedback and the helmsman is not able to determine in which position the steering wheel is currently located. Given the extreme inertia of a large vessel, the wrong position of the rudder can lead to very sad consequences. For example, to turn the same "Princess Anastasia" takes quite a long time. After turning the rudder, a minute will pass before it gradually begins to bring the stern, then another minute, after which it begins to turn the bow of the ship. Fortunately, thanks again to GPS, modern ships have an "autopilot" system that does an excellent job of steering during long passages.

15. To keep the course, the helmsman checks not with a magnetic compass, but with its improved counterpart - a gyrocompass. An excellent device, but it also has a weak point and this is again dependent on the mains. Moreover, even the slightest power surge, even invisible to the eye, causes significant deviations in the readings. Therefore, next to the gyrocompass is an indicator of the voltage of the ship's power supply.

16. Another relic of the past - the watchman's intercom. If trouble happens and the ship's electric generator fails, this tube will be the only means of communication between the watchman and the engine room.

17. Another extremely important workplace is the navigator's place. It is here that all plans for the upcoming trip of the ship are made and all its movements are tracked. In the age of digital technologies, the main working tool of the navigator is still a paper map, where he is obliged to plot a course and constantly mark the current location of the ship using the dead-reckoning method. As a rule, this is done at least once an hour in the coastal zone and at least once every four hours on the high seas. There are several navigators on a large ship and they keep a round-the-clock watch. By the way, even ultra-modern nuclear submarines today still follow paper maps, since the GPS system does not work underwater. In order to determine its location using the observation method, the submarine must first surface, which means breaking the stealth mode and letting the enemy detect itself.

18.

19. A large space on the dashboard is given to the control of the light on the ship and alarms in the technical rooms. For clarity, the stands show images of the ship's decks divided into compartments.

20. The control unit for navigation and signal lights of the ship is made in the same way. Since at night any external lighting is completely absent at sea, navigation lights and their correct use is the main means of preventing ship collisions.

21.

22. Since keeping a watch takes several hours, convenient places are provided in the wheelhouse so that the crew members on duty can have a bite to eat or drink coffee without leaving their watch. After all, the Princess Anastasia is not a warship.

23. And then, without wasting time, return to their duties again, because, despite all the means of navigation and radar, the most important guarantee of the safety of the ship at sea was and is the constant vigilance of the crew.

24. And this vigilance is maintained on the bridge 24 hours a day. While all passengers are sleeping peacefully in their cabins, and the crew members involved in passenger service are resting, several people are constantly on duty on the bridge, thanks to which sailing on ferries is safe and comfortable.

Basic questions and answers about Viking conquest.

  • Question: How to control ships?
Answer: Enter tactical mode (backspace key by default) - from there you can issue orders to the ship's crew. The arrows on the keyboard allow you to select the direction of movement, enter raises or lowers the sail. Ship control keys cannot be remapped. It is also worth paying attention to the fact that the movement of the ship itself is implemented in an inert way, that is, the keys do not need to be held down. Pressing "up" once causes the ship to move forward (double pressing significantly increases speed), "left" or "right" causes the team to turn in the appropriate direction. Pressing the opposite key will cancel the selected direction of travel. A ship with a raised sail sails much faster, but only in the direction of the wind.
  • Question: How to start an abortion?
Answer: Just press against the side of the enemy and stop any movement - the soldiers will start boarding themselves. In the future, you will be able to control the ship only if there are no opponents left on your ship.
  • Question: I can’t hire anyone in settlements - what should I do?
Answer: In order to be able to recruit recruits, you must obtain permission to do so. This is done either through a bribe to the headman, or by asking permission from the owner of the village. In the latter case, the player character is required to have a certain amount of renown, as well as a positive relationship with the lord's faction, otherwise they will refuse. During the passage of the story campaign, at first, the player will not be able to access the hiring even by giving a bribe to the headman. By the way, in the "Vikings" troops can be hired in cities.
  • Question: The story mission does not work, the quest does not count - what should I do?
Answer: Wait for a patch, or start the game over. Unfortunately, the chance to fix such a problem on your own is extremely small. For the future, it is recommended not to perform non-standard actions (including not joining any faction until it is required by the story) and not to wait too long with the completion of story missions.
  • Question: How to shoot with a sling?
Answer: The principle of shooting from a sling is at the same time similar to both a crossbow and a bow. First we need to put a projectile into the sling (with the exception of the first shot, of course - at the beginning of the battle it is already loaded), and then press and hold the key so that the character unwinds the rope. After releasing the key, the projectile should fly towards the enemy. Fustibal has a similar principle of action.
  • Question: During the battle, my character starts to run slower and deal less damage - what is it?
Answer: This is how the battle is affected by the character's stamina parameter, the status of which is displayed under the character bar if it is enabled in the settings. During the battle, the character begins to run out of steam and his stamina decreases. With a low stamina, the character noticeably loses speed and deals less damage. The rate at which stamina decreases depends on the character's equipment: shields and heavy armor increase fatigue. Stamina can be disabled both at the beginning of the game and during it in the settings in the camp mode (camp). Similarly, stat penalties from a number of items can be disabled.
  • Question: Where can you sell prisoners here?
Answer: This can be done in salt mines.
  • Question: On the quest I received some kind of shelter - what is it?
Answer: A hideout is something like a castle that will belong to the player regardless of which faction he is in. By upgrading the shelter and hiring personnel for it, you can also perform a number of actions typical of cities. At the same time, the shelter does not generate income and you cannot hire soldiers in it (but you can train them automatically). By the way, you can build a shelter yourself - from the camp menu.
  • Question: I came across a happy widow in a tavern - what kind of woman is this?
Answer: This lady is able to communicate with your soldiers and increase their morale. Not for free, of course. I don't think I need to say what exactly she does. Morale, by the way, can be increased several times in a row, but not endlessly: after a while, despite the fact that the widow will continue to take money, morale will stop rising. But if you turn to another widow, then her actions will again have an effect.
  • Question: How to hit a shield with a weapon?
Answer: Press and hold the Q button on the keyboard. Only works in online play.
  • Question: In the character window it says that he cannot read - what should I do?
Answer: Learn to read in a monastery, or ignore this fact further.
  • Question: How to buy, sell or repair ships?
Answer: In the port city, you must select the "See the Sheeps" item. In the window that opens, we can view the ships for sale, as well as manage our fleet: sell ships, repair them and assign a flagship (the ship on which the player will start the battle).
  • Question: How to transfer to the ship and back here?
Answer: This is done either through the menu of the port city, or through special zones on the map that appear on the shore, next to which you sail. Your fleet, by the way, stays where you left it - don't lose it.

The ship is partially interactive, namely:

1. Gangways on both sides of the ship (rope ladders from the water)
2. Ladder from the water
3. Mast - you can get to Mars through it
4. Mars - nest on the mast
5. Sails - fold / raise
6. Anchor capstan - anchor/remove anchor
7. Lanterns - for viewing at night
8. Guns - for firing
9. Boarding bridges - a ladder for moving to the opponent's ship during boarding
10. Steering wheel - to control the ship

Any player can interact with the interactive part of the ship, except for the steering wheel and guns, to interact with them, you must be in a group with the owner of the ship

The anchor capstan is active for all players, whether they are in a group with the owner of the ship or not. That is, any player can climb on any ship and anchor, thereby immobilizing it. The same is true with sails.

Any member of the group, and not just the owner of the ship, can stand at the helm (that is, control the ship).

Ship management

After calling the ship and when the team boarded, you can start sailing (do not forget your friends in the water)

To control the ship, 1 person must stand at the helm

If the main sail is not raised, then the ship is subject to a speed penalty (approximately 50%). So don't forget to raise the main sail.

Also the ship will not move if it is at anchor.

The ship has arcade controls, meaning it can move in all 4 directions (forward, backward, left and right). When turning left / right without moving, the ship rotates around its axis.

There is no wind in the game, and there never will be.

When steering a vessel, it is necessary to take into account the depth of the fairway (so as not to run aground). Depth can be determined by the color of the water (the darker the deeper).

The ship takes damage when colliding with another ship (the amount of damage is not yet known)

Conducting combat operations

The armament of the ship consists of 8 guns, 4 guns on each side.

To interact with a cannon, the player must double-click on it (only for those who are in a group with the owner of the ship).

When a player takes a place behind one of the guns, a torch appears in the character's hand (for lighting the fuse, it looks very realistic)

When controlling a cannon, the player has 2 skills: 1) a shot from a cannon 2) exit the cannon control mode

Shooting from a cannon is carried out according to the principle of "non-target"

The damage of one shot is approximately 400 HP of the ship, the cores also have a zone of destruction, the player who gets into this zone also receives damage (the shot must be fired in the area of the deck of the ship)

The guns have a reload time, they also have restrictions on the firing range, on the angle of rotation, as well as a dead zone in front of them

Important! For effective shooting, you need to keep a distance with the enemy

A shot from a cannon also deals damage to buildings (the list of buildings / buildings is not yet known)

ship repair

Repairs to ships are done with the help of hourglasses, which are crafted with the Alchemy profession.

  • Small retrograde clocks are needed to repair boats. Bought from a merchant.
  • The average retrograde clock is needed to repair trimorans. To craft, you need an alchemy level of 10,000 and a small reverse clock.
  • Large reversal clocks are required for large ships. To craft, you need an alchemy level of 20,000 and an average reverse time clock.

All types of hourglasses have the same icon. Check the title carefully when buying from an auction.

The water is rarely calm. Therefore, when moving, the ship has to experience the action of various factors that cause it to deviate from its normal position.

Under the influence of waves or other external forces, a floating ship experiences vibrations, or pitching . As a result, the speed of the vessel slows down. There are additional stresses in the case. And at large amplitudes, this can lead to a loss of stability. The ship may even sink.

ship stability

What happens to the ship at the moment of pitching from the point of view of physics?

Suppose the ship is listing to the right. The center of gravity of the ship itself remained in the same place. And the center of pressure will shift. The force of weight is always applied to the center of gravity of the ship, and the buoyant force, or Archimedes force, to the center of pressure. These forces during roll are no longer on the same vertical, but form a pair of forces and a moment, which is called restoring. They will tend to turn the ship so that these forces are again on the same vertical line. That is, they will try to level the ship.

The point of intersection of the buoyant force with the axis of the ship is called metacenter. If it is located above the center of gravity, the ship is not afraid of even a large roll. He is in a stable position.

And if the metacenter is below the center of gravity, the ship is unstable. This happens if the ship is loaded incorrectly. For example, the hold is almost empty, and the bulk of the cargo is on the upper deck. In this case, the moment of gravity and the force of Archimedes will be overturning. In this position, the slightest roll is dangerous for the vessel, as it can turn it over.

The ability of a vessel that is deviated from its equilibrium position by external forces to return to it is called stability .

There are times when the ship is forced to go without cargo. In this case, ballast is specially loaded into the hold in order to increase its stability.

Distinguish between transverse and longitudinal stability. When rolling, when the ship rolls to the starboard or port side, one speaks of lateral stability. And with pitching, when the ship leans along the diametrical plane, we are talking about longitudinal stability.

ship propulsion

The ability of a ship to move at a given speed on a given course relative to wind and sea waves is called propulsion . It is believed that a ship that will develop a greater speed with less energy costs has a greater propulsion.

The speed of the ship depends on the resistance of water and air, the power of the main ship engines and the operation of the propellers. The main power of the engines is spent on overcoming the resistance of water.

A self-propelled vessel has an engine and a propeller.

The engines that are used on ships are divided into main and auxiliary. Main engine is the main source of energy and provides the movement of the vessel. Its power drives mover , which, in turn, converts the energy of the engine into useful work to move the ship. For example, a ship's propeller is a propeller.

Auxiliary engines drive electric generators, electric pumps, fans, etc.

At different times, ships were propelled by different types of engines. On steamboats, it was a steam engine that turned a propeller or wheels. It was later replaced by a diesel engine. It generated electricity that ran the electric motor. And he was already turning the propeller shaft.

By the way, the mover can use not only the power of the main engine. So, on sailing ships, the mover is the sails. They convert wind energy into motion energy. The propeller on the boat is the oars, which convert the muscular strength of a person into the energy of movement.

The movement of the ship is provided by a diesel internal combustion engine, and the turbo ship is powered by a steam or gas turbine. On nuclear-powered ships, the propeller drives a nuclear power plant.

On a modern ship, all machines and mechanisms are located in the engine room. This is where they are managed.

Ship management

The ship's course is changed with the rudder. In fact, this is a rather complex device, most often located in the stern of the vessel. The ship's rudder changes the direction of water movement around it. Water presses on the steering wheel with a certain force. And this force makes the ship rotate around its center of gravity. In still water, the ship does not obey the helm, but the greater the speed of the ship, the better it is controlled.

On older ships, the rudder changed its position with the help of the helm. And in our time, on some ships, the steering wheel has been preserved. But most often on a modern ship, the rudder is controlled from the wheelhouse, which is included in the pilothouse. In the wheelhouse there are navigation aids, as well as speedometers, barometers, etc.

The safety of the ship during movement is provided by location stations, which allow avoiding collisions with reefs and rocks. The ship alarm with the help of light and sound signals warns of the onset of a pre-emergency state if any of the parameters deviates from the norm. In the event of an emergency, an alarm is activated.

AT Sea of Thieves without warping anywhere, and therefore today in our walkthrough guide, we will tell you a few secrets about how to control the ship, how to repair it and how to use the guns. With our walkthrough guide Sea of Thieves you will become a real master of the seas.

In Game Sea of Thieves adventure, legacy, and even your loyal crew all revolve around your ship. After all, it is on it that you go to sea in search of treasures, battles with other players, and so on. And, if you are not careful, then your ship may one day be at the bottom of the sea.

We still have few details about this, but the developers said that we can sell treasures for money and improve our ship with this money: install other guns, sails, and so on.

How to control the ship

Driving a ship is not an easy task, you will need a team that will have to become one in order to go to sea.

Step One: Decide on a Direction

Often you will have to set the course of the ship even before you go to sea. You will need to explore a treasure map or solve a puzzle in order to get the first key. Examine them carefully, and then go to the captain's cabin and look for the island you need on the map. This map will show you the direction, and you should have a person who will constantly monitor the course of the ship and report deviations from this course.

Step Two: Raise Anchor

The ship will not sail anywhere if the anchor is not raised. You need at least one person to be in charge of this. N, the more people raise the anchor, the faster things will go.

Step three: stand at the helm and raise the sails

Another member of the team should stand at the helm. There is a compass near the steering wheel, the helmsman will have to find out the course of the ship from the person who is busy with maps. But neither the helmsman nor the cartographer can see what is happening ahead. Therefore, one more person is needed, who will sit either on the observation mast or on the bow of the ship in order to warn members of his team of danger.
When you set sail, other crew members should be close to the ropes in order to deploy or furl the sails in time. The wind will fill your sails with strength, and you will be able to sail quickly towards adventure. But, if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, or if you are caught in a storm, it is better to remove the sails and wait for the right moment to unfold them again.

How to fix a ship

If you get into a fight or hit a reef, you need to get your ship repaired quickly or your ship will end up on the seabed.

The first thing you need to do is find a hole through which water will begin to flow. Usually this hole is in the hold of the ship. The more holes, the faster the water flows in, flooding the lower deck of your ship. In one of the barrels on the lower deck you will find boards with which you can plug the leak, the flow of water will stop.

Next you have to get the bucket from your inventory and start bailing out the water. The more people doing this, the better. It is necessary to eliminate all the consequences of a leak while it is still possible. First we scoop up water with a bucket, then pour it over the side of the ship. We repeat the procedure until there is no water left on the ship.

How to use guns

To make sure your ship is well protected, or to quickly escape the battlefield, you need to become familiar with guns. Cannons are located on both sides of the ship's stern, but in order to load the cannon, you need to bring the cannonball, which is in one of the barrels in the ship's hold. Cannons can be used by all team members.
And now you have a core in your hands, you can load any free cannon with it. If the cannon already has a cannonball, you will see a puff of smoke above it. After you have loaded the cannon, you can start firing. If you have a lot of cores in your inventory, you can use them to charge the cannon.

If you want to use yourself instead of the core, you first need to pull the core from the cannon, then stand in front of the cannon and wait for the "climb inside" icon to appear. Aim and fire your cannon when you're ready to make this crazy ship escape.
