Driving lessons

Which car is the fastest. The best sports car. Who is faster: Nissan, Porsche or Bugatti

Perhaps there is no driver who would be indifferent to this car. Some passionately love her, others hate no less fiercely, but no one denies that Bugatti veyron   - One of the most advanced cars in the history of the automotive industry.

1.   The Veyron front grille was originally made of aluminum for weight reduction. However, this did not lead to anything good when testing the machine at high speed. It turned out that birds flying towards were a big problem for Veyron, as well as for airplanes. The grilles were eventually replaced by titanium.

2.   Bugatti came up with a “power meter” that shows how much power a 1000-horsepower car engine is developing at any moment. As a result, it was possible to establish that 270 hp enough for Veyron to reach 250 km / h. The remaining 731 hp necessary to reach a speed of 415 km / h.

3.   Veyron can be ordered in several versions from the factory. In one of the options, the speedometer is encrusted with 1 carat diamonds. Each diamond has a hexagonal shape, which should symbolize a sixteen-liter engine.

4.   Developing a top speed of 415 km / h on a production Veyron is a rather complicated process, in which it’s not enough to just find a sufficiently long stretch of road. When reaching a speed of more than 375 km / h, you need to insert the second key " Top speed»Into an additional lock next to the driver's seat. When turning the key, the clearance decreases to 6 cm, the spoiler angle decreases to 2 degrees, the diffuser on the front grill closes, and the steering angle is limited.

5.   If a conventional turbocharged engine gets very hot during operation, how is the engine made of two twin W8 and four turbochargers heated? In fact, in 2001, the first veyron engine He warmed up so that he burned a test bench. Later, on test races, a 2-meter-long tongue of flame flew out of the exhaust pipe of a supercar at ultrahigh speeds. Manufacturers wanted to leave this chip, but it is illegal. Bugatti made a unique cooling system and titanium exhaust system to prevent such overheating.

6.   This legendary car got its name in honor of the French racer Pierre Veyron, the winner of the daily race of 1939 at Le Mans.

7.   The volume of the Bugatti gas tank is as much as 100 liters and this is not surprising, because Bugatti loves to "eat". Fuel consumption in the city is more than 40 liters per 100 km, and with a fully open throttle, it is already 125 liters per 100 km of track: this is the price of a record speed.

8.   The Bugatti has its own wing, which is automatically controlled by a speed sensor. It helps the Bugatti to stay on the ground, because the car travels faster than the plane during acceleration.

9.   For interior trim, the skin of alpine cows is used, which graze at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, as there are no mosquitoes and there are no small flaws in the skin. The interior of one car takes more than 20 animal skins.

10.   To fully imagine the high cost of the car, it is worth noting that the Bugatti Veyron gearbox alone is more expensive than the Porshe 911, and the brake discs are more expensive than the Volkswagen Golf.

What do you think is the most fast car   in the world? According to numerous world-class experts, this is the car that debuted at the Pebble Beash contest. It was in 2010, and after that it was put into production.

The same Bugatti!

The car reached an unprecedented speed line of 431 km / h. Yes exactly! Many then compared the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport car with an airplane and wondered how you can control the car at such a frantic speed.

The first five cars for sale were copies of the test, which set a speed record among all production cars. The series, which consisted of only five such machines, was called Word Record Editions, and it was sold (mini-series) for more than ten million dollars.

Which car was considered the fastest before the Bugatti? It was the SSC Ultimate Aero, which in 2007 traveled 411 kilometers per hour. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport broke his record by as much as twenty kilometers, which is certainly amazing. How did you manage to achieve such a result in such a short period of time?

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport created by joint efforts. Who has not had a hand here. This was the popular chief designer Hartmut Varkuss, as well as designer Joseph Kaban and many others. Thanks to the talents of the great designer, in particular, it was possible to give such a magnificent appearance. As for the name of the car, which is by far the fastest car, it consists of the names of the pioneer of the car, Ettore Bugatti, and the equally famous racer Pierre Veyron, who defeated the famous Le Mans race in 1939. And Veyron sat, as you know, at the wheel of an old-edition Bugatti.

The history of the Bugatti brand

It was founded in 1909 and then was already a car brand, designed for a narrow circle of consumers from a rich environment. Buying such a luxury car could afford only the most wealthy segments of the population. And after the car won the first ever Monaco Grand Prix, interest in it only increased.

Who was this Ettore Bugatti? A talented engineer, who later became a successful industrialist, he created his first car in the basement of his house. His first car was called the Bugatti Type 10 and on it stood a 4-cylinder eight-valve engine, which had a volume of 1131 cubic meters. see. Although the car was far from perfect, the Italian managed to find a sponsor. Perhaps, thanks to the sponsor, the car chassis was considered successful and then used in further models.

The engineer and creator of the new car followed in the footsteps of leading experts in the field of mechanical engineering of that time and applied the technology of facilitating automobile construction for the sake of mechanical efficiency. As a result, a completely mobile car comes out of the conveyor, having a guaranteed maximum speed of 100 km / h, which was quite a lot for that time. Driving a new car was incredibly simple and comfortable. Ernest Frederick, as the mechanic was called Bugatti Type 13, managed so that he, under the guidance of an experienced rider, finished second at the French Grand Prix in 1911.

The Bugatti Type 13 car becomes the most significant novelty on the eve of the First World War, and subsequently the car is taken as the basis up to model 59.

During the war, production ceased. Europe, drowning in blood because of the First World War, was not up to sporting events. It was during this difficult time that Bugatti sells a license for the production of a French company, which, in fact, is its direct competitor. The creator of the great car himself, having buried his three in the ground top car, returns to his native Italy, which is fighting on the side of the Entente. After the end of hostilities, Bugatti came back to Molsheim, which had already become a French city. That's how the company becomes French.

It was 1921, when the cars hidden before the war were born. Ettore Bugatti continued his research and was in an active creative search. And thus, he managed to create two completely new car models, endowed with an eight-cylinder engine. The cars were called Bugatti 28 and 30.

Already in 1923, a new Bugatti 32 model was released, which was nicknamed the tank. Indeed, in appearance the model resembled the wartime technique.

Bugatti 35 - The Art of Winning

The turning point for the automobile concern is 1924, when four models of the concern occupy leading positions at the Grand Prix. And then for a full five years, the Bugatti models 35, 35a, 35b and 35t give no chance to competitors to win the race. The models were equipped with an eight-cylinder engine with a capacity of 95 horses and were super manoeuvrable. Bugatti Type 35 has glorified the brand in motor sport, and have already begun to bring incredible profits. About 330 cars were produced and sold six years after the famous victory in the race. And the Bugatti Type 35 model brought the company about 1800 victories.

Bugatti 41 La Royal - aristocratic grace

The next famous model of the brand was Type 41 La Royal, which was released in 1927. This is the most ambitious and luxurious car of the time, endowed with a long wheelbase and having an engine capacity of 13 liters. The car was very maneuverable and it was easy to drive on city streets. The Bugatti Type 41 weighed about three tons, but it developed an incredible capacity for those times - 260 liters. from. His wheels were a real work of art, the spokes were assembled from piano strings.

However, due to the financial crisis of 1929, a total of six La Royal models were released. Although it was intended by the manufacturer to put cars of this brand on the stream and make them at least 25 pieces.

Prewar years

The company reached its true heyday in the thirties, when the production of the Bugatti Type 44 model began. The car became massive, as many can buy it.

And in the same year, Type 46 Petit Royal is released, which, in essence, repeats the La Royal model, only in smaller versions.

And in 1931, the concern produces the Bugatti 50, which has an eight-cylinder capacity of 250 liters. from. There was a double cylinder head on this engine, which was new in those days.

As for the racing modification, in 1937 it was released with a 3.3-liter engine and lowered chassis. The car won at Le Mans 24 and was ahead of no less famous brands of racing cars: Alfa Romeo, Talbot and Lagonda.

At that time, the fatal model of the Bugatti Type 57 also appeared, on which the son of Ettore himself, Jean Bugatti, dies during the tests.

After this tragic death, the brand’s sports career ends, although it is entered in golden letters in the chronicle of Le Mans 24 races. The reason for the decline of the concern is the war launched by Hitler in Europe.

Already after the Second World War, the production of Bugatti continued, but compared with previous productions, it was noticeably reduced. The concern faced a financial disaster.

Second birth

Bugatti survived a rebirth in 1980. It was then that the illustrious name pops up again when a supercar appears, striving to overcome the 322 km / h speed barrier. The car differs from its competitors by its originality and has nothing to do with the classic Bugatti forms known in the past.

Bugatti EB 110 and Bugatti EB 110S - the so-called models - regular and sports, released at this time.

In 1993, the Bugatti EB112 sedan, presented in the four-door version, was presented at the Geneva car show.

And finally, in 1999, the Bugatti was bought by Volkswagen, which introduced the fiberglass EB 118, made with a coupe body.

After that, there was a show at a motor show in Germany, then in Tokyo, where Hartmouth Varkuss already started designing a car. It was he who created the high aluminum air intakes at the rear of the body that are characteristic of the Bugatti of our day.

And the mass production of the Bugatti Veyron begins in 2005. Already in March 2006, the first of the cars went to the lucky owner, and now the concern plans to significantly increase their production.

As for other developments, it can be noted the attempts of British engineers to create the fastest car in the world, which will accelerate to 1600 km / h in twenty seconds. Interesting, right? It smacks of stories about agent 007 and the like. Indeed, at such a speed he will be able to overtake a bullet fired from a revolver.

Test drive car Bugatti Veyron:

As for others fast carsthen, in addition to the Bugatti Veyron, you can call the SSC Ultimat Aero (411 km / h), Koenigsegg CCX (402 km / h), Salen Twin Turbo (399 km / h), McLaren F1 (391 km / h) and Ferrari Enzo (355 km / h).

Hypercar Bugatti Veyron eleven years ago set several records at once among cars designed for driving on public roads. And the main goal of the creators of the new coupe under the name Chiron was to update all the records of the predecessor. And they succeeded!

It is impossible to consider Chiron as a completely new model - Veyron was taken as the basis, although almost all components and elements underwent modernization. For example, the unique W16 eight-liter engine has been completely redesigned - it has more efficient turbochargers (there are four of them, as before), a new intake system, a lightweight crankshaft, and many parts are made of titanium and carbon fiber. As a result, the return increased from 1200 hp. and 1,500 Nm for the previous Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse model up to 1,500 hp and 1600 Nm.

The transmission with a seven-speed preselective "robot" and permanent all-wheel drive has not fundamentally changed, although the clutch has become larger and more durable. Suspension - with electronically controlled shock absorbers. The coupe, as before, is based on a carbon fiber monocoque, but its structure has been changed, and its torsional rigidity is comparable to racing prototypes of the LMP1 class: 50 thousand Nm / deg! But if the base Veyron in curb weight weighed 1888 kg, then the Chiron overweight to 1995 kg.

This is partly why the acceleration time to 100 km / h remains the same - 2.5 s, although when it comes to such small values, the tire grip coefficient plays an equally important role. But the threshold of 200 km / h Chiron takes 6.5 seconds - 0.8 seconds faster than Veyron. And acceleration to 300 km / h takes 13.6 s instead of 16.7 s. The maximum speed is 420 km / h, then Veyron reached 407 km / h, and Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse - 410 km / h. Moreover, to set the maximum speed, as before, you need to activate a special high-speed mode with a separate key, in which the hydro-bearings of the springs will reduce the clearance to a minimum, the aerodynamic valves in the front bumper will open, and the rear wing will rise almost horizontally. Without this key, you can dial “only” 380 km / h.

And here is an equally important fact: the Russian designer Alexander Selipanov worked on the appearance of the new Bugatti. The coupe still has a family radiator grill in the form of a horseshoe and bullying arches on the sidewalls. In the cabin - a minimum of keys and two screens in the instrument cluster, and the speedometer is marked up to 500 km / h - just in case.

Production of Bugatti Chiron hypercars will begin in September. The price is also a record: if Veyron initially cost 1.1 million euros, and the latest version of the Grand Sport Vitesse is almost two million, then they will ask for at least 2.4 million for the new model! Veyron was released in the amount of 450 copies, but the last cars were finding buyers with difficulty, and this was only due to the fact that they were presented as limited special equipment. The circulation of the new model is 500 copies, and one third of them are already prepaid.

After the Bugatti Veyron was recognized as the fastest production car, the company did not calm down and decided that there was no limit to perfection.

Already at the end of 2015, information appeared that the new Bugatti hypercar would be even faster and more powerful than the flagship model. Naturally, such rumors caused unprecedented excitement, therefore, when a new prototype appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2016 at the Bugatti stand, it became one of the main characters of the auto exhibition.

The novelty was called Bugatti Chiron in honor of one of the most famous racers of the mid-twentieth century, speaking in the Bugatti team.

The press service of the company said that they intend to produce 500 cars of this model, and the price of the basic configuration will be from 2,400,000 euros (about 152.4 million rubles), and 120 cars have already been sold upon prior request.

Despite the resemblance to its predecessor, Bugatti Sharon is developed on a completely new platform. Its dimensions are slightly larger than that of the Veyron model, and the use of a fundamentally new cooling system, an improved intake and other technical innovations have led to the fact that the mass of the empty hypercar has increased to 1880 kg - for comparison, the “dry” mass of the Zonda hypercar is only 1040 kg.

In the design of the chassis, aluminum-titanium alloy and carbon are widely used, but only several types of carbon fiber are used for the body. But the main thing is that the designers managed to seriously reduce the aerodynamic drag of the hull.

First of all, Chiron does not have air intakes protruding in the aft part - they are integrated into the side panels of the hypercar behind the monocoque and provide a more efficient air intake. Another set of air intakes is located at the bottom of the front spoiler, just above the splitter - an incoming air stream cools the brake discs.

In all other respects, Sharon is very similar, almost like a sibling, to Veyron. The same branded nose with the “Bugatti line” of polished aluminum, the same deliberately heavy forms of body lines, the same lack of a hood in the rear. But the new flagship received a completely new optics, and the shape of the roof is optimized to reduce resistance to the flow of incoming air.

It is necessary to mention active aerodynamics systems - it is impossible to see them in the normal mode, since they are put forward only at high speed. Retractable active wing and side spoilers allow you to increase the controllability and downforce acting on the car at ultra-high speed.

Interior

“Bugatti is a car for public roads” - this is the motto the company adheres to in the design of its hypercar interior.

Only Bugatti manages to combine in an incomprehensible way the minimalism and Spartan decoration of hypercars with the luxury of prestigious S-class cars. The interior made of carbon fiber is trimmed with elite varieties of genuine leather and polished aluminum inserts.

On the central panel there is a speedometer with markings up to 500 km / h. All other information is displayed on two side displays located next to the speedometer.

On the center console are the transmission knob and climate control system activation buttons, exquisitely finished with pure silver. Also in the cabin there is even a glove box with a cooling system and a proprietary audio system with four tweeters in which single-membrane membranes are installed.

In a word, this is not a car that can only be driven on a track - it is an ultra-luxury car for everyday driving.

Powertrain and Transmission

“Let competitors release Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren - we remain true to tradition,” says company director Wolfgang Dürheimer. “No hybrid motors, just a classic engine. "We do not intend to change the design and layout of the car, losing our loyal customers."

Therefore, the heart of the Bugatti Chiron is the W16 gasoline engine with four turbochargers, which is located at the rear of the car and transmits torque to all four wheels.

The engine is an upgraded version of the unit that was installed on the Veyron. It has the same volume of 7993 cm3, but this is their only similarity. Engineers managed to increase power to 1,500 hp. - against 1001 hp Veyron and 1200 hp Veyron Super Sport.

Such an incredible increase in power is achieved thanks to a new and more efficient cooling system, a more powerful exhaust system with a blow diffuser, as well as the modernization of a two-stage boost with much lower back pressure. Torque increased to 1600 Nm and 70% of it is already available at 2500 rpm.

The well-proven 7-band transmission with two independent clutches and a reaction speed of 15 ms migrated unchanged from its predecessor to the car. There are also five modes, the last of which under the name “Top Speed” allows you to accelerate the hypercar to 420 km / h. Acceleration to hundreds is only 2.5 s, and 200 km / h on the speedometer will appear after 6.5 s.

Specifications

Chassis

An adjustable suspension with a modernized all-wheel drive system using electronic lockable differentials on both axles is designed to increase the accuracy of hypercar control to an unprecedented sharpness. When driving in various modes, the suspension automatically changes clearance to reduce drag and create a higher downforce.

Larger carbon ceramic brake discs feature 8-piston calipers at the front. Rear mounted 6-piston calipers, but the rear brake discs themselves are more than 20 mm. The thing is that the diameter of the Bugatti Sharon rollers is increased to 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the rear, and they are shod in specially designed Michelin tires with a width of 300 mm in front and 400 mm at the rear - this allows you to increase the contact patch with the road surface and improve grip .

According to Wolfgang Dürheimer, the head of Bugatti, the company respects the traditions and interests of regular customers and fans of the brand.

“We do not pursue sales like mass manufacturers - our customers are extraordinary people and non-standard auto enthusiasts. They are ready to pay a high price, but they want a completely unique car and we are ready to offer it. ”
