The best boxers in the world enter the ring for money or fame and arrange a real show. People always wanted two things - bread and circuses. As long as there are athletes who can provide the latter, this sport will live on.

In order to become the best, they worked for a long time and worked on themselves, improving themselves every day. Before presenting the rating of boxers of the world, it is necessary to understand "where the legs grow from."

Boxing history

Officially, a sport such as boxing was recognized only in 1719 in England. An interesting fact is that from that moment, this country still counts all its tournaments and championships, consistently printing newspaper reports.

Unofficially, we can say that boxing is at least 5 thousand years old. This is exactly what archaeologists confirm, who found 2 tablets in the vicinity of Baghdad, where boxers with wrestlers were depicted.

In the Olympic program, such competitions appeared only in 23 games. Many years have passed since that time and boxing underwent constant changes until it acquired its final form, which we can observe at the moment.

How to choose the best boxers in the world?

To have an idea of \u200b\u200bhow the best boxers of the world are selected, it is necessary to consider the criteria by which an athlete is determined.

Of course, the number of fights taken into account is taken into account, victories in relation to defeats, draws and fights won ahead of schedule are analyzed. In addition to this, not only style is important, but also the manner of warfare, together with the average number of points. Despite this, many boxers - world champions - were not included in this list, but those who were stripped of their belts and titles (for example, head it. This is due to the fact that as such a specific list of requirements does not exist, but the best one is selected, relatively one or another unapproachable associations by popular vote.

Rocky Marciano - 8th place. I have not received a single defeat. He performed in heavy weight and gained fame due to his daring character and cruelty.

Julio Cesar Chavez - 7th place. One of the most famous boxers in Mexico, who participated in competitions according to 3 weight criteria. He defeated a large number of eminent boxers. The famous Mike Tyson in 5th place. There are probably no people who do not know his name. No one doubts his fame, but all thanks to his phenomenal aggression during the battle, which allowed to win fights either in the first seconds, after the strike of the gong, or in the first 2-3 rounds. Bets on fights with Mike were only for how much time he sent his opponent to the knockout. There is a line about him in the Guinness Book of Records.

Jack Johnson and honorary fourth place. For 10 years, he was the undisputed heavyweight champion. He was not loved not only by boxers, but also by the audience, but all because of the technique and style of warfare. Despite all the negativity, he emerged victorious from almost every battle.

Three leaders

Sugar Ray Robinson - bronze in the ranking. It was a boxer with a capital letter. He combined the best qualities that allowed him to perform in seven weight categories. Despite its large dimensions, it possessed amazing stamina and invested in every blow.

Muhammad Ali - silver. Of all the famous boxers, this is perhaps the most famous. Five times in a row was recognized as a boxer of the decade. Olympic Heavyweight Champion weight category. The scandalous boxer was the de facto world champion, but de jure he was deprived of these titles because of his character, and most importantly, because he went to war in Vietnam. He was invincible. Neither society, nor country, nor rivals could break it.

Joe Louis takes the first place in the ranking of boxers of all time, not because he was the best heavyweight boxer, but because he set a record that has not yet been beaten by anyone. The champion title belonged to him for 11 years, eight months and seven days.

  in boxing

In fact, the strongest boxer in the world cannot be determined if it is about the strength of his blow. This is due to the fact that no one has ever measured the impact power of all athletes in order to compile some kind of more or less acceptable statistics. It should be understood that during the striking, not only muscle strength is important, but also its knockout component. It is because of this that it is very difficult to make specific calculations. At the same time, jerky and sharp punches can be exactly the same in strength, but their knockout components are completely different.

The impact force of an average man is in the region of 200-1000 kg. Moreover, the lower indicator is a good blow for a boxer of 60 kg, while the upper one is for a heavyweight. Only 15 kg to the chin area is enough for a knockout.

Despite this, in the world there is an opinion that the most bounce  Of all the former boxers that existed, it was Mike Tyson.

The strongest blows

Many boxers dream of a crushing blow. World champions and applicants for this title in all weight categories always hope to finish the match ahead of schedule, but unfortunately not everyone has the blow of the required strength. Despite the fact that Mike Tyson's right cross is considered to be the strongest blow, in fact there are several other boxers who had, if not stronger, then clearly not weaker blow.

  1. George Foreman is a right uppercut.
  2. Ernie Shavers - Right Cross.
  3. Max Baer (rumored to knock out a real bull).
  4. Joe Fraser is a left hook.

Strength is not important

Even the boxer who has a crushing blow cannot win without having the necessary tactical plans for every fight. All opponents are different and have their own style and strategy, and where the counterattack takes place, the force stop can not always pass. Famous boxers become such not only due to their impeccable which, of course, is also important. But also a boxer can not do without a coach and a special psychological attitude before the fight. It is important to beat an opponent already at the weighing stage.

Modern boxing

Despite the fact that the best boxers of the world of all time have been announced, modern boxing dictates its own rules. If we talk about the achievement of an athlete, regardless of his weight category, then at the moment it is worth noting Floyd Mayweather. He holds the world welterweight boxing champion title.

The rating of eminent fighters is headed by this particular American boxer, and immediately followed by Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko. Further, the rating of the best modern boxers, regardless of their weight category, is as follows:

  • Manny Pacquiao.
  • Juan Manuel Marquez.
  • Saul Alvarez.

  • Danny Garcia
  • Adonis Stevenson.
  • Sergey Kovalev.

Grand meeting

Despite the achievements of boxers of the last century, speaking of the best, one cannot ignore the 2015 meeting, where Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will meet. There is probably no lover of this sport who would not talk about a future match. Truly great boxers of the world meet in a full-time fight, the rate of which will be respect and an unprecedented until this time fee in a nine-digit figure. In addition, the athletes will finally decide who is the great fighter of our time and take away three titles.

Many polls consider Louis the best knockout in history. For eleven years he held the title of the most powerful boxer in the world.

Most recently, I decided to look on the Internet for the top 10 best boxers, however, I did not find a single article that resembled my opinion. So I decided to write an article about the best boxers of all time. This rating is based on the most respected boxing magazine Ring, my personal impressions, statistics of boxers, as well as the opinions of people who are fond and engaged in boxing. Honestly, any rating of great boxers will be very subjective, but let's get started.

Statistics: 173 wins, 109 (KO) 19 losses, 6 draws

He boxed in 1940-1965.

Many boxing fans consider Robinson the best boxer of all time. He is perhaps the most talented fighter in the world. His incredible strength, lightning attacks and a solid chin helped him defeat the strongest opponents. Robinson was also easy to remember by his appearance. Sugar Ray owned the famous night club in Haarlem, and also sang and danced beautifully. Both in the ring and outside it, Robinson was a very important figure in the life of people and the country. He really possessed incredible abilities and iron will. Of course, there are boxers with statistics better than Robinson, but, as a rule, they fought with weak opponents. Ray, on the other hand, chose only the most worthy and powerful, defeating them one by one in his “beautiful” manner.

2. Mohammed Ali

Statistics: 56 wins, 37 (KO), 5 losses

Boxed in 1960-1981.

Mohammed Ali  - the greatest boxer who has contributed not only to sports, but also to the political life of the country. Being the world champion in heavyweight, he refused to go to Vietnam and held anti-government speeches for which he was imprisoned. Ali returned three years later and was ready to take himself to the top of boxing again. He fought such great boxers as Joe Fraser, George Foreman, Ken Norton and many others. At the same time, he defeated them, showing his incredible talent and amazing will. Many of his main fights became legendary and got the name, "Thriller in Manilla", "Rumble in the Jungle." still one of the most recognizable people on the planet. Whenever one remembers him when compiling any ratings of boxers, Ali will always be in the top ten.

Statistics: 150 wins, (100 KO) 21 losses and 9 draws

Boxing in 1931-1945

Henry Armstrong was the first boxer to own three championship belts at the same time. He would have got a fourth, if not for a draw with Garcia, which many consider unfair. Despite this, he defended the title of champion in the welterweight title more than anyone else in the world. He began his career very poorly, however, then an incredible series of victories went. Many times during his career, Armstrong has responded to defeat with ten victories. His best series of victories lasted 27 fights, and he defeated every fight by knockout. This is the best series of victories in the history of boxing. No one else did. Nowadays Pacquiao and Mayweather are the best in this weight, but they are far from Armstrong. In 2007, Ring Magazine named Armstrong the 2nd greatest boxer in 80 years. Despite this, I put him in third place. After he “hung the gloves,” Armstrong became a coach and preached Baptism.

Statistics: 66 wins, 52 (KOs), 3 losses

Boxing in 1934-1951

Joe Louis was a true symbol of America. He instilled hope in the hearts of people, Louis just could not lose. He became the pride of African Americans. During World War II and racial harassment in America, Joe Louis became more than a boxer. Many of Louis’s fights have become very significant for politics, international relations and people. Across the country, people turned on the radio and listened to the victories of this greatest boxer. Such an important boxer will never be again, partly due to the political atmosphere of that time. Joe Louis was the first African American boxer to become an idol for all people in America, regardless of their skin color. His three defeats came to the end of his career, when Louis was not at all in his best shape. After his great past, he was mired in debt for tax evasion. No one remembered how much money and support he gave to his country during the war. He was forced to fight even in retirement. Although he was very old, thanks to his technique, he managed to defeat many opponents.

Statistics: 103 wins, 70 (KOs), 16 losses

Boxed in 1968-2001

Roberto Duran has been at the top of boxing for over thirty years. For all true boxing enthusiasts, Roberto ranks in the top ten. He is a fighter to all fighters. If you look at his fights, you can understand how gifted this man is. Durant is the only boxer who has won battles for 5 decades. Roberto Duran had all the makings of the greatest boxer. He had an aggressive fighting style, strength, speed and iron will. He was able to rise from the ashes, like a phoenix, when no one thought that he could fight. And not just rebel, but rebellion defeating young boxing star Sugar Ray Leonard. Thanks to all this, he can be confidently given 5th place in my ranking.

Statistics: 36 wins, 25 (KOs), 3 losses, 1 draw

Boxed in 1977-1997

Anyone who is fond of boxing knows Leonard. He alone was able to fill the void in boxing after Mohammed Ali. He was awarded the title Boxer of the Decade in the 1980s. He fought the best of the best and defeated boxers such as Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler and Wilfred Benitez. Sugar Ray Leonard very quickly became the greatest boxer, as he possessed all the qualities of a fighter: excellent technique, intelligence, attractive appearance, charm, speed and reaction. He received a gold medal at the Olympics and won many championships for juniors. After the Olympics, Leonard was going to go to business school. However, his girlfriend ruined everything. She wanted to get help for the child without telling Leonard about it. The press immediately found out about this and attacked him, because of this he had to become a professional. His most famous fights against Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran made a huge impression on all boxers and put Leonard on the list of the greatest. Thanks to his magnificent battles with strongest rivals, his charisma and charm, I firmly put him in 6th place in my ranking.

Statistics: 87 wins, 59 (KOs), 3 losses, 9 draws

Boxing in 1963-1977

Carlos Monzon is an Argentinean boxer whose career is full of boxing, drama and tragedy. Carlos Monzon has one of the longest series of victories in our time. At first, it seemed that his fighting style was not something special. Having lost 3 times in points in the first twenty fights, he began to show incredible power of blows. In the end, he showed himself on the stage of world boxing and won more than 60 times in a row! After defeating the world middleweight champion, it immediately became clear that Monzon would be the best. Monzon defeated Griffith world champion three times. Before their 2 fight, Monzon ran 3 miles to lose weight, and then defeated him. Having become a champion, he defeated the most powerful opponents, and no one else could stop him. In 1995, he died in a car accident, immediately after 11 years in prison. Many boxing magazines are sure to make it into the TOP 10 greatest boxers.

Statistics: 62 wins, 52 (KO), 3 losses, 2 draws

Boxed in 1973-1987

Amazing Marvin Hagler is the idol of so many boxing fans. He was a beast who defeated all his rivals. He has the highest average knockout wins. The amazing Marvin Hagler also won the most spectacular fight in the history of boxing. Before the fight with Sugar Ray Leonard, Hagler had 2 defeats. Despite the fact that he lost by a very controversial decision of the judges, he was able to avenge all his failed fights and defeated all rivals by knockout. And also completely dominated the middleweight. His best fights were against Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard, in which Hagler was able to defeat with incredible willpower.

Statistics: 44 wins, 29 (KOs), 10 losses, 2 draws

Boxing since 1989

Evander Holyfield - the greatest American professional boxer, who possessed an iron will, incredible strength and strongest character. Defeating Mike Tyson, he truly dominated the heavyweight division. So far, at 51, he is going to box for the third time with his opponent Mike Tyson. In general, you can talk a lot about this person (we read the biography on the site), but every person who is fond of boxing knows and respects this boxer for sure. This man, like no one else deserves to be in the TOP 10 of the best boxers in the world. For me, he is the best heavyweight after Mohammed Ali.

Statistics: 55 wins, 40 (KOs), 8 losses

Boxed in 1989-2011

Roy Jones the Younger has really impressive light heavyweight stats: he had 7 belts at the same time. Roy was also the only boxer who started in middleweight, being a junior, and reached the heavy. He was the first in 106 years to become the world champion, both in middleweight and heavyweight. In the 1990s, he was the "Fighter of the Decade."
