The history of the style of Voque and its name dates back to the 1960s, when representatives of the gay community began to perform in women's costumes at Harlem balls. These peculiar fashion shows have been popular forms of entertainment in New York since 1930, but many “queens” could not participate in them because of discrimination. During the 1960s, the community grew, as a result of which transvestites, dressed in women's costumes, were given the opportunity to dance at the Girl Show in Las Vegas, using pantomimes and model poses.
