Questions. Consequences of "Postinor": reviews. "Postinor": application How effective are postinor tablets

No matter how sad it is to write about it, but postinor in Russia ranks second among contraceptive methods. On the first, as you know, is. And yet, many women, despite the large selection of contraceptives, use postinor to prevent unwanted pregnancy, forgetting or not knowing about the complications, and what danger the harmless 2 pills pose in the future.

Meet Postinor

Postinor is produced in a package in which there are only 2 tablets (only the number of tablets should suggest that this is not a drug for regular use). One tablet contains 750 mcg of levonorgestrel, which has an emergency contraceptive effect. Levonorgestrel has antiestrogenic and progestogenic properties.

Postinor refers to emergency or fire contraception, and should be used only in exceptional cases, and not constantly and regularly.

How does postinor work?

The contraceptive effect of the drug is in three points. Firstly, levonorgestrel prevents the release of the egg from the follicle, that is, it inhibits ovulation (this moment is especially relevant in the preovulatory and ovulatory phases). Secondly, levonorgestrel, as a progestogen, changes the structure of the uterine mucosa and causes "glandular regression" of the endometrium, which makes it impossible for a fertilized egg to penetrate into the uterine wall (violation of implantation). This mechanism is comparable to, that is, conception has already occurred, but the uterus expels the egg. And thirdly, levonorgestrel causes changes in the mucus in the cervical canal, making it viscous and thick. Such mucus plays the role of a barrier and makes it difficult for sperm to enter the uterine cavity.

From the described mechanisms of action of postinor, it becomes clear that the effectiveness of the drug is directly proportional to the time it is taken after unprotected sex. After using postinor 24 hours or less after intercourse, it will protect against unwanted pregnancy in 95% of cases, when taking pills after 25-48 hours, the effectiveness is 85%, and if postinor was taken in the interval from 49 to 72 hours, its reliability decreases up to 58%.

Rules for accepting a postinor

Postinor can be taken on any day of the menstrual cycle. If a woman has an irregular menstrual cycle, the absence of pregnancy should be confirmed. The first tablet from the blister should be taken no later than 72 hours after intercourse. The second dose should be taken exactly 12 hours later (an interval of 4 hours is allowed, that is, no more than 16 hours later).

If a woman vomits within three hours after taking a postinor tablet (regardless of the first or second one), an additional tablet should be taken. Menstrual-like bleeding (withdrawal bleeding) can occur a few days after taking the drug (on average after 3 to 7 days) and about a month later (at the time of the expected period).

Postinor is not a means for regular contraception, if a woman has an active sex life, she should consult a doctor and choose the best method of contraception. It is believed that you can not use the drug more than once a month, and preferably no more than 4 times a year. In fact, it is better not to resort to postinor at all, but to use it only in an exceptional situation.

When is postinor justified?

Life is an unpredictable thing and there are situations when it is necessary to prevent pregnancy:

  • rape;
  • the condom broke;
  • unprotected intercourse for various reasons;
  • expulsion of the intrauterine device or shift of the vaginal diaphragm;
  • missed taking a pill from a series of combined oral contraceptives.

Consequences after using postinor

Since the drug contains an "elephant" dose of the hormone, its use can adversely affect a woman's health. Firstly, there is a high probability of uterine bleeding, which can only be stopped surgically (that is, by curettage of the uterus). Secondly, taking postinor, especially more than once in a lifetime, hits the ovaries, which leads to menstrual irregularities, hormonal imbalance and anovulation. All of these effects are a direct path to infertility. Thirdly, a large dose of levonorgestrel cannot but cause side effects:

  • nausea and vomiting, diarrhea;
  • headache, dizziness;
  • mood swings (emotional lability, panic fears);
  • delay of menstruation;
  • allergic reactions;
  • pain in the lower abdomen, fatigue;
  • pain and engorgement of the mammary glands.

Elena asks:

Hello! My name is Lena, I'm 22 years old. Sexual intercourse was on July 25, the condom broke. About an hour later I took a postinor tablet, followed by 17 hours later. Monthly constants, cycle of 28 days. My period is due on July 27th. Please tell me how much this drug will help me, because I was late with the second pill for a couple of hours. And is pregnancy possible during these periods, like these are safe days. Thanks for the help!!!

If semen enters the female genital tract, pregnancy is possible. Prem drug postinor significantly reduces the likelihood of pregnancy. Important in the case of emergency contraception is the earliest taking the first pill.

Katya asks:

Hello! I took Postinor 25 hours after the unprotected PA, the next pill - 12 hours later, according to the instructions. For the third day I have not observed any consequences, only yellowish discharge, similar to thrush. Can you tell me, please, is it possible that these are signs of pregnancy ??
Thanks!

If intermenstrual bleeding does not begin on the 5-7th day of taking the drug, it is necessary to consult a gynecologist and donate blood for hCG, to exclude pregnancy.

Karina asks:

Hello! I took Postinor after 36 hours, and after 5 days the action will begin? If there is no pregnancy, will there still be bleeding?

Postinor begins to act immediately after taking the tablet (after it is dissolved and absorbed in the intestine). Bleeding, which should appear 5-6 days after the use of this drug, indicates the highest contraceptive effect and the exact absence of pregnancy. If there is no bleeding at all or it occurs later, you will need to undergo an examination by a gynecologist to exclude pregnancy. You can read more about Postinor and its effects on the body in our section: Postinor.

Karina asks:

thanks for the answer! I have another problem ((in general, I drank as expected, after 5 hours menstruation began, 3 days my stomach hurt, yesterday I started tingling in the lower abdomen, intensified in the evening, it hurts to press on the lower abdomen, today is the same, only it hurts less .can it be from postinor?

The listed symptoms may be associated with taking the hormonal contraceptive Postinor, so you should not worry. As a rule, these symptoms disappear on their own, specific measures are not required. You can get more information about this in the section: Hormonal contraceptives

Anya asks:

Hello! immediately after unprotected intercourse, I drank a glass of milk with iodine, after which, within 24 hours, I drank the first postinor tablet (the second one, as instructed), but after 5 days there were no changes, is there a chance that there is a pregnancy?

As a rule, bleeding after Postinor begins 6 days after taking the last pill. If it is absent, then it is necessary to exclude the possibility of pregnancy. To do this, I recommend that you do a blood test for hCG 7-10 days after intercourse. You can get more information on this issue in the section: Analysis for hCG

Maria asks:

I had intercourse for two days in a row, and both times they didn’t use protection, everything about me, 48 hours after the first time, I drank Postinor, but it turned out that I got pregnant anyway, could it be?

Unfortunately, this situation is possible, since Postinor is not a 100% effective remedy. In addition, the time of taking Postinor is also important - the longer the interval from sexual intercourse to taking Postinor, the less its effectiveness. You can get more information on this issue in the thematic section of our website: Postinor

rita asks:

torn condom torn drank after 8 hours postinor further according to the instructions I have a question, menstruation should go in 1-2 days how to understand if menstruation goes, did postinor work

In the event that you begin menstrual flow, then pregnancy can be completely excluded and this will mean that the drug has worked. Read more about the effect of the drug Postinor, read in a series of articles by clicking on the link: Postinor.

Victoria asks:

Tell me, within 12 hours after intercourse I drank postinor, then the second pill, all on time. Menstruation began (as it should be according to the cycle, it coincided) 6 days after the act and taking the postinor. after 2 weeks, menstruation began again, more precisely spotting, often black. 4 days later, heavy periods began. Can you tell me if this may be a consequence of taking Postinor and will it return to normal in the next month or is it necessary to urgently consult a doctor?

These bleedings are associated with taking the hormonal contraceptive Postinor. In such cases, nothing needs to be done, the menstrual cycle will recover on its own. I recommend that you use barrier methods of contraception. Damira asks:

Hello. On February 1, I had sexual intercourse and the condom broke within an hour, I took 1 tablet of Postinor, then after 12 hours the second one. should arrive around February 15. What should I do?

As a rule, after taking Postinor, bleeding begins on the 6th day, but in some cases it may be later. Given that you took the drug correctly, you should not worry, nothing needs to be done now. Marina asks:

Hello! I'm 40 years old. Yesterday at 19.00 there was unprotected intercourse, the very middle of the cycle, a dangerous week. This morning at 10.00 I took the first Postinor tablet, 15 hours passed after PA. The lower abdomen ached, the heartbeat became more frequent, in general, all the signs, the effects of the drug. Waiting for the bleeding to start. My question is: Can I start taking Tri-regol on the first day of bleeding after taking Postinor?

In this situation, you should take the second Postinor tablet 12 hours later, after which, after 6 days, as a rule, menstrual bleeding begins. It is not the beginning of menstruation, so you do not need to take Tri-regol - wait for the next menstruation and from the first day of the cycle you can use cyclic hormonal contraceptives, if they are prescribed to you by your gynecologist.

Valentina asks:

Menstruation was on June 18, June 2 was an unprotected PA, but the partner did not finish me, I believe him.
After about 10 hours I drank Postinor, after 12 hours another one, just in case.
Is it possible to rule out pregnancy?
Or what should I expect?

In this situation, there was no need to use emergency contraception if there was no ejaculation in the vagina. Taking Postinor excludes pregnancy, so there is no reason to worry. Further I recommend you to apply barrier methods of contraception. Marina asks:

Hello, I took postinor after 40 hours, 4 days have already passed and visions of a dark color appeared and my stomach hurts all the time, I had sex 2 days before my period, tell me if the drug will help and what is the probability of pregnancy ?!

The probability of pregnancy is excluded if you have taken the hormonal contraceptive Postinor in a timely manner. The presence of spotting confirms that pregnancy has not occurred, so there is no reason to worry. Elena asks:

Unprotected intercourse, after 3 hours I immediately drank 2 Postinor tablets (I didn’t read the instructions, unfortunately), then during the day there was still sexual intercourse. It's been 5 days with slight bleeding. Q: Is it a long acting drug?

The emergency contraceptive Postinor, according to the instructions, must be used according to the scheme - 2 tablets with an interval of 12 hours, and the contraceptive effect extends to sexual intercourse that took place before Postinor was taken. The presence of spotting indicates the absence of pregnancy, so you should not worry. We recommend that you do not panic and continue to use barrier methods of contraception, and if you have regular sex life, personally consult with your gynecologist to select a reliable contraceptive.

Elena asks:

The condom broke in the middle of the menstrual cycle. After 4 hours I drank the first tablet of Postinor, after 12 hours the second. There are no sensations, today is the 4th day after unprotected intercourse, there is no discharge. Did Postinor work?

As a rule, after taking the hormonal contraceptive Postinor, spotting is observed after 6 days, but in some cases it may be absent, which, nevertheless, does not give grounds to judge the absence of the effect of using this emergency contraceptive. Given that the drug was taken in a timely manner, there is no reason to panic.

Elena asks:

On the 8th, my partner and I had an unprotected PA. He did not cum inside me, after about 25 hours I took the first pill and after 12 hours I took the second. Can you please tell me how to help? How soon should menstruation start?

If during intercourse there was no ejaculation in the vagina, then there is no chance of pregnancy. In this situation, there was no need to use Postinor emergency contraception. After taking this medication, spotting usually starts after 6 days, and the next menstruation may come late.

Synthetic drug with a contraceptive effect, pronounced gestagenic and antiestrogenic properties. At the recommended dosing regimen, levonorgestrel inhibits ovulation and fertilization if sexual intercourse occurs in the preovulatory phase, when the possibility of fertilization is greatest. It can also cause changes in the endometrium that prevent implantation. The drug is not effective if implantation has already occurred.

Efficacy: Postinor tablets can prevent pregnancy in about 85% of cases. The more time elapsed between sexual intercourse and taking the drug, the lower its effectiveness (95% during the first 24 hours, 85% from 24 to 48 hours and 58% from 48 to 72 hours). Thus, it is recommended to start taking Postinor tablets as soon as possible (but no later than 72 hours) after sexual contact, if no protective measures have been taken. At the recommended dose, levonorgestrel does not have a significant effect on blood coagulation factors, fat and carbohydrate metabolism.

Pharmacokinetics

When taken orally, Postinor is rapidly and almost completely absorbed. Absolute bioavailability is almost 100% of the dose taken. After taking 0.75 mg of levonorgestrel, C max in serum, equal to 14.1 ng / ml, is reached after 1.6 hours. After reaching C max, the content of levonorgestrel decreases. T 1/2 is about 26 hours.

Levonorgestrel is excreted approximately equally by the kidneys and through the intestines exclusively in the form of metabolites. Biotransformation of levonorgestrel corresponds to the metabolism of steroids. Levonorgestrel is hydroxylated in the liver, metabolites are excreted in the form of conjugated glucuronides. Pharmacologically active metabolites of levonorgestrel are unknown. Levonorgestrel binds to serum albumin and to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). Only 1.5% of the total dose is in free form, and 65% is associated with SHBG.

Release form

Tablets are white or almost white, disc-shaped, chamfered, with a circular engraving "INOR." on one side.

Excipients: colloidal silicon dioxide, potato starch, magnesium stearate, talc, corn starch, lactose monohydrate.

2 pcs. - blisters (1) - packs of cardboard.

Dosage

The drug is taken orally. It is necessary to take 2 tablets in the first 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. The second tablet should be taken 12 hours (but not later than 16 hours) after taking the first tablet.

To achieve a more reliable effect, both tablets should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse (no later than 72 hours).

If vomiting occurs within 3 hours after the 1st or 2nd dose of the Postinor tablet, then another Postinor tablet should be taken.

Postinor can be used at any time of the menstrual cycle. In the case of an irregular menstrual cycle, pregnancy must first be excluded.

After taking emergency contraceptives, local barrier methods (eg, condom, cervical cap) should be used until the next menstrual period. The use of the drug during repeated unprotected intercourse during one menstrual cycle is not recommended due to an increase in the frequency of acyclic spotting / bleeding.

Overdose

Increased severity of side effects. There is no specific antidote. Carry out symptomatic therapy.

Interaction

With the simultaneous administration of drugs-inducers of liver enzymes, the metabolism of levonorgestrel is accelerated.

The following drugs may reduce the effectiveness of levonorgestrel: amprecavil, lansoprazole, nevirapine, oxcarbazepine, tacrolimus, topiramate, tretinoin, barbiturates, including primidone, phenytoin, and carbamazepine, drugs containing St. rifabutin, griseofulvin. Levonorgestrel reduces the effectiveness of hypoglycemic and anticoagulant (coumarin derivatives, phenindione) drugs. Increases plasma concentrations of corticosteroids. Women taking these drugs should contact their doctor.

Preparations containing levonorgestrel may increase the risk of cyclosporine toxicity due to suppression of its metabolism.

Side effects

Allergic reactions: possibly - urticaria, rash, itching, swelling of the face.

Transient side effects that occur with varying frequency and do not require drug therapy: sometimes (1-10%) - vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, breast tenderness, delayed menstruation (no more than 5-7 days; if menstruation is delayed for more than long term, it is necessary to exclude pregnancy); often (more than 10%) - nausea, fatigue, pain in the lower abdomen, acyclic spotting (bleeding).

Indications

Emergency (postcoital) contraception (after unprotected intercourse or unreliability of the contraceptive method used).

Contraindications

  • adolescence up to 16 years;
  • severe liver failure;
  • pregnancy;
  • rare hereditary diseases such as lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

With caution: diseases of the liver and biliary tract, jaundice (including history), Crohn's disease, lactation.

Application features

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Postinor is contraindicated for use during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurred while using an emergency method of contraception, then, based on the available data, an adverse effect of the drug on the fetus was not detected.

Levonorgestrel is excreted in breast milk. After taking the drug, breastfeeding should be stopped for 24 hours.

Application for violations of liver function

The drug is prescribed with caution to patients with diseases of the liver and biliary tract, is contraindicated in severe liver failure.

Application for violations of kidney function

Data on the use of the drug in patients with impaired renal function are not provided.

Use in children

The drug is contraindicated in adolescents under 16 years of age.

special instructions

Postinor should only be used for emergency contraception. Repeated use of the drug Postinor during one menstrual cycle is not recommended.

The effectiveness of Postinor tablets after unprotected intercourse, in which contraceptives were not used, decreases over time:

The drug does not replace the use of permanent methods of contraception. In most cases, Postinor does not affect the nature of the menstrual cycle. However, there may be acyclic spotting and a delay in menstruation for several days. With a delay in menstruation for more than 5-7 days and a change in its nature (scanty or heavy discharge), pregnancy must be excluded. The appearance of pain in the lower abdomen, fainting may indicate an ectopic (ectopic) pregnancy.

Adolescents under 16 in exceptional cases (including rape) need to consult a gynecologist to confirm pregnancy.

After emergency contraception, a consultation with a gynecologist is recommended to select the most appropriate method of permanent contraception.

Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

With violations of the function of the gastrointestinal tract (for example, with Crohn's disease), the effectiveness of the drug may decrease.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms

The effect of Postinor on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms has not been studied.

Postinor, as many women know, is a means of emergency or fire contraception - that is, its use is allowed only in unforeseen situations (rape or a torn condom). But today, many women have switched to this type of contraception, completely ignoring the existence of other methods of preventing unwanted pregnancies, which is very sad. Undoubtedly, this drug helps to prevent unwanted pregnancy in almost 100% of cases, but many do not know or do not want to know what postinor is dangerous for, what threats to health it poses.

A little about Postinor and its mechanism of action

Postinor is a hormonal progestogen-containing drug that is used only in case of emergency contraception (with rare and irregular sexual intercourse). The active ingredient of postinor is levonorgestrel, which is contained in the drug at a dose of 0.75 mg.

The action of the postinor is based on three points

  • Firstly, the drug inhibits ovulation, that is, the egg does not mature and enter the fallopian tube, where fertilization occurs.
  • Secondly, postinor completely changes the structure of the uterine mucosa, which makes implantation of a fertilized egg impossible, it is simply expelled from the uterus (the so-called abortive effect).
  • Thirdly, the drug causes changes in the cervical mucus, making it more viscous and thick, which prevents sperm from entering the uterus.

How to take postinor?

It should be noted that the effectiveness of the drug is maintained only during the first 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. Moreover, the earlier postinor was taken, the higher the likelihood of avoiding an unwanted pregnancy. The scheme of reception is not difficult. The first tablet is taken, and exactly after 12 hours (but no later than 16 hours) it is necessary to drink the second tablet.

The dangers of using postinor

As it becomes clear from the foregoing, postinor is a drug that contains an elephantine dose of the hormone, and its use causes a severe hormonal blow to the body. Therefore, taking postinor is fraught with various complications.

Uterine bleeding

Taking postinor is often accompanied by bloody discharge from the uterus. It is good if these discharges are not abundant and short-lived. What if it's the other way around? Uterine bleeding can be so intense and / or continue for a long time that it will require immediate medical attention up to curettage of the uterine cavity.

Menstrual irregularity

Even a single dose of the drug can lead to disruption of the menstrual cycle, not to mention the frequent and uncontrolled use of postinor. The menstrual cycle goes astray, becomes irregular, there are pains during menstruation. In addition, the development of amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) is possible, which is fraught with infertility, the treatment of which is long and not always successful.

However, it should be noted that a single or double use of postinor does not lead to the inability to become pregnant. In this case, the problem of infertility should be sought elsewhere - for example, sexually transmitted infections may be to blame, since the drug does not protect against such diseases or chronic inflammatory processes in the appendages and uterus, and so on.

Ectopic pregnancy

Taking the drug leads to the expulsion of a fertilized egg from the uterus. But not always the egg comes out. As a result of uterine contractions, it can enter the fallopian tube, where it implants and continues to develop.

Side effects of postinor

The use of postinor is often accompanied by severe side effects (nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, etc.).

The effect of postinor on metabolism and weight

Postinor has a pronounced effect on the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, since a massive dose of levonorgestrel causes a strong blow to the liver, which neutralizes toxins and produces enzymes. Therefore, after taking the drug, both an increase and a decrease in body weight are often noted. In addition, after taking postinor, the synthesis of aldosterone (a diuretic hormone) is inhibited, which leads to fluid retention in the body and the appearance of edema. Another unpleasant moment of using the drug is excessive hair growth and the appearance of hair in uncharacteristic places, according to the male type.

Postinor is a drug for emergency contraception, and it is allowed to use it no more than three times a year. Although I, as a doctor, believe that it is best to abandon this drug altogether and replace it with other methods of contraception.

Anna Sozinova, obstetrician-gynecologist

"Postinor" is currently one of the most popular drugs to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Among the female half of the population, due to its properties and application features, it has received the name of a remedy that terminates a pregnancy "the next morning." In developed countries, Postinor is not used as a contraceptive, this drug is prescribed only after consulting a specialist and is dispensed in pharmacies strictly according to the prescription due to the unsafety of its use. In our country, the drug can be bought at any pharmacy freely if it is in stock, and if it is not available, place an order, and in the shortest possible time it will appear on the counter of the pharmacy. The drug is used as an emergency prevention of unwanted pregnancy, it is not used for permanent use. But in some women, Postinor has found use on an ongoing basis as a method of contraception.

The drug "Postinor" - pharmacological properties

The drug has progestogenic, antiestrogenic and contraceptive properties, therefore, it works in three directions:

  • blocks the exit of an already mature egg from the ovary into the fallopian tubes, as a result of which fertilization by a spermatozoon does not occur;
  • in the case of completed ovulation and fertilization, it does not allow the fertilized egg to be implanted in the walls of the uterus by changing the composition of the endometrium, as a result, it becomes loose and the egg cannot attach to it;
  • changes the composition of the cervical mucus, as a result of which it becomes viscous, the speed of spermatozoa decreases, they cannot penetrate the uterine cavity, therefore, the fertilization process does not occur.

If the fertilized egg is still attached to the walls of the uterus, the drug becomes ineffective.

In what forms is the medicine produced?

This drug is available in a single form - tablet. Oval-shaped tablets of white or milky color. One tablet contains 0.75 mg of the active ingredient - levonorgestrel - an artificial hormone and other additional substances (silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, talc, corn lactose monohydrate). One carton contains one blister containing two tablets.

Indications for the use of the drug

It is accepted only in cases where sexual intercourse was forced and unprotected, or in case of mechanical damage to the condom in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy. It is not recommended to constantly take this drug, since its negative effect on the body leads to hormonal changes in the future and threatens with infertility, which is difficult to treat.

The effectiveness of "Postinor"

The effectiveness of the drug is on average about 85% and depends on several factors, such as the correctness of the medication and the time that has passed since sexual intercourse. If no more than 24 hours have passed since the completion of sexual intercourse, the effectiveness of the drug reaches 95%, if not more than 48 hours - 85%, if more than 48 hours and up to 72 hours - less than 58%.

Why is the drug dangerous?

Like all hormonal drugs, "Postinor" has a number of side effects. Most frequent:

  • allergic reactions - rash, itching, angioedema;
  • common symptoms - chills, sweating, feeling hot, weakness, lethargy, pain in the lower abdomen;
  • on the part of the digestive system - nausea, vomiting, impaired stool (diarrhea);
  • from the organs of the central nervous system - headache, dizziness, irritability;
  • on the part of the reproductive system - intermenstrual bleeding, their soreness, the appearance of discharge when pressing on the nipples, in girls who took Postinor, the delay in menstruation can be 5-7 days, there may also be amenorrhea - the absence of menstruation, which in the future can lead to infertility ;
  • hormonal disorders - male pattern hair growth (appearance of facial hair);
  • violation of carbohydrate and fat metabolism (body weight can either decrease or increase);
  • increase the likelihood of developing an ectopic pregnancy.

Assessing the consequences of Postinor, many women leave negative reviews, because the drug must be taken very carefully.

How to take it?

Reception of "Postinor" is carried out as soon as possible after an accomplished unprotected sexual intercourse. During the first 48 hours, one tablet of the drug should be taken orally, without chewing, with a small amount of water. 12 - 16 hours after taking the first tablet, you must take the second, but no later than 72 hours. In case of vomiting within 2 - 3 hours after taking the medicine, another tablet is taken. "Postinor" can be used on any day of the menstrual cycle. If there is an irregular menstrual cycle, then before taking the drug, it is necessary to exclude the presence of pregnancy. It is undesirable to take the drug more than once in one menstrual cycle. After taking "Postinor" until the onset of menstruation during sexual intercourse, you should use barrier methods of contraception, such as a cervical cap or a condom.

What could be the threatening consequences of taking "Postinor"?

As a consequence of taking the drug, profuse uterine bleeding may develop as a result of an increase in the hormone progestogen in the blood and a change in the thickness of the endometrium. The occurrence of bleeding should serve as a signal for seeking qualified medical help.

Another very dangerous side effect of the drug is an increase in blood coagulation, as a result of which thrombosis of blood vessels can occur. Blockage can be partial - with incomplete occlusion of the lumen of the vessels, and complete. At the same time, there is a high probability of developing ischemic stroke with various kinds of paralysis and paresis.

In some cases, the formed blood clots can break off and occur as a result of which a hemorrhage in the brain can develop, sometimes with a fatal outcome. The consequences of Postinor, the reviews of women testify to this, are very dangerous, so this drug should not be taken lightly.

To whom is the drug contraindicated?

Termination of pregnancy with "Postinor" is contraindicated in a number of diseases and conditions of the body. The main ones are:

  • diseases of the liver and biliary tract with impaired functions (liver failure) due to the fact that hormone metabolism occurs in the liver;
  • the age of girls under 16 years old - due to the negative impact on the formation of the female hormonal system;
  • pregnancy - due to a negative effect on the fetus;
  • lactation period - due to the high probability of getting into breast milk and affecting the baby;
  • individual sensitivity to active and excipients;
  • uterine bleeding of unknown origin - due to an increase in their duration;
  • any infectious diseases of the genitourinary system (in particular, we are talking about genital herpes);
  • violation of the enzymatic activity of the gastrointestinal tract, when the process of absorption of glucose, galactose is impaired;
  • cancer of any organ - due to the likelihood of accelerated tumor growth and the appearance of metastases;
  • a violation in the work of the circulatory system, when there is a tendency to increased thrombosis;
  • Crohn's disease - due to a decrease in absorption and absorption of the drug and, as a result, a decrease in the effectiveness of the drug;
  • peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum - due to the high likelihood of gastric bleeding.

Features of the flow of menstruation after "Postinor"

The flow of menstruation, their very appearance, says a lot. With their appearance, it can be concluded that there is a pregnancy. But it may also indicate any violations in this area. There are two options for menstrual irregularities after using the drug:

  1. Menstruation after "Postinor" can be delayed up to one week (in cases where more than two weeks have passed and menstruation has not begun, you should immediately contact a gynecologist, as this may indicate a pregnancy or be the result of a negative effect of the drug itself on the female body) sometimes amenorrhea occurs - the absence of menstruation, which leads to infertility;
  2. Severe uterine bleeding, which is a signal for contacting a medical institution.

For what menstrual disorders "Postinor" can not be used?

There are a number of menstrual disorders in which the drug is strictly not allowed to be used:

  • heavy and prolonged periods;
  • brown discharge from instead of menstruation;
  • bleeding from the uterine cavity;
  • pain during menstruation;
  • irregular menstrual cycle.

"Postinor" price

The cost of the drug depends on which pharmacy or pharmacy chain is sold. For those wishing to purchase Postinor, the price ranges from 228 to 281 rubles for one package with two 0.75 mg tablets. The cost of the drug may vary depending on the region where you purchase it. Also, the price is different in pharmacy chains. In general, the drug is one of the available medicines for different segments of the population.
