Who grabbed the sloth sid. What are the names of the characters from the cartoon "Ice Age"? Saber-toothed tiger Diego

“Ice Age” ranks second in the ranking of the most profitable animation franchises with regard to box office. The cartoon is very popular mainly because of the extremely charming characters. The sloth from the "Ice Age" among the constellation of images stands out for its spontaneity and pronounced comic. So what kind of animal is this? And what is his biography?

Sloth from the "Ice Age": name, features of appearance and character

The action of the animated film "Ice Age" takes place in the prehistoric era, during the time of total icing of the Earth. The main characters are funny animals that really lived in the ice age: saber-toothed tigers, mammoths, brontoterias, dodoes, etc. And of course, the plot involves more familiar animals. For example, the second most important hero of the Ice Age is a sloth.

What is the name of the sloth from the "Ice Age"? The filmmakers called the star character Sidney. If we draw an analogy, then Sid for “Ice Age” is something like a Donkey for “Shrek”: awkward and lisping, a little clumsy, it creates almost all the comic situations in the cartoon.

Sid is a generator of ideas. Loves to chat, almost does not close his mouth, which annoys everyone around. However, a sloth cannot be called completely stupid. Rather, direct. Due to his indiscretion and sloppiness, the character constantly creates problems both for himself and his friends.

Due to the fact that Sida abandoned his relatives, he was ignited by an obsession as soon as possible to start his own family. This topic has been actively developed throughout the animation franchise.

Sloth from the "Ice Age": photo, the role of the character in the plot of the first part

In "Ice Age-1" begins the mass immigration of animals to the South. Everyone leaves in packs, and his relatives left Sid's sloth to their own devices.

Then the restless hero sticks like a Velcro to the sullen loner - the mammoth Manny. On the way, a mammoth and a sloth become witnesses to the death of a woman who transfers her baby to the animals for conservation. Since Sid's family is a fixed idea, he takes to heart the fate of the baby and convinces the mammoth to go in search of a human "flock" in order to return the baby.

A little later, the tiger Diego joins Sid and Manny. At first the lisping sloth annoys his friends. But then everyone gets used to Sydney’s quirks, and he becomes a universal favorite.

Sid's Fate in Ice Age 2

The second part of the franchise begins with the theme of global warming. Manfred, Sidney and Diego set off in search of a ship to escape the floods.

On the way, the company meets the new main characters of the cartoon - the mammoth Ellie and her two “brothers” - possums. Sid also accidentally encounters a whole tribe of his relatives. However, they again inflict mental trauma on the comedic hero: mistaking Sid as a deity, a flock of sloths decides to throw him into boiling lava, thereby sacrificing him. Fortunately, Sidney manages to escape.

Despite all the dangers, the company safely and safely gets to its destination.

Funny sloth and the "era of dinosaurs"

The sloth from the Ice Age in the third issue of the franchise becomes almost the central hero, because he ... adopted three dinosaurs. Crazy about the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating his own family, Sydney did not even think that dinosaurs have a real mother. Sid's enterprise ends with his friends having to rescue him from an angry dinosaur again.

Cartoon "Continental Drift"

The sloth from the "Ice Age" continues to be the "engine" of the plot in the animated film "Continental Drift".

This time, the family sheds on his neck the same restless and annoying Granny as Sidney himself. By chance, the sloth and his Grandmother, as well as Manny and Diego, find themselves on a broken ice in the middle of the raging water, and then are captured by the pirates. They have to battle Captain Gatt and his crew to be able to reunite with their loved ones again.

Sid in Ice Age 5

The sloth from the "Ice Age" in the 5th part of the cartoon finally finds his love. However, the pretty sloth Francine doesn’t even think of dating Sydney because he is ill-mannered, unsympathetic and looks untidy. This becomes a blow to Sid, who in his head has already scrolled the whole life together with Francine.

However, Sydney did not have time to grieve: meteor shower suddenly hit the Earth, and then it turns out that a giant asteroid is threatening the planet. Heroes loved by the audience again join forces to prevent a catastrophe.

In search of magnets that could help, the Pack wanders into the country of Geotopia. Here, Sydney again manages to fall in love, but already in another sloth - Brooke. Brooke joins the Pack and helps them save the Earth from an approaching asteroid. And in the final, Sidney and Brooke get engaged.

In 2019, the final franchise cartoon will be released. In what trouble heroes will get in the new film - one can only guess. But one thing is certain: the sloth Sydney will remain just as ridiculous and restless, because he is a real decoration of the cartoon.

Plot

Good old friends: the sloth Sid (in the Russian version voiced by the host Anton Kamolov), the saber-toothed tiger Diego, a couple of possums and two mammoths - a gloomy Manfred, whose friends are simply called Manny, and his cheerful and cheerful wife Ally (the TV presenter Olga Shelest duplicates her role) come back to us from the first minutes of the cartoon.
In the new part of the Ice Age, everyone should have a couple or at least children, like Sid. Anyone who does not "flock" in the cartoon either suffers from melancholy, like Diego, or goes crazy like a new character - Weasel Buck - Indiana Jones of the dinosaur era.

Ellie is getting ready to become a mother, and Manny’s future father develops manic syndrome on this basis - he is building a playground and cannot think of anything else but about future replenishment in the family. Diego's tiger is lonely and getting weaker every day. He becomes bored in this “pack”, and he is about to leave.

A sad mood turns to a lifelong optimist - a sloth Sid. He also feels lonely without Manny’s attention and in search of new friends comes up against giant eggs, which he is about to “sit out” with joy and inspiration. How can one not recall the hypertrophied maternal instinct of a sloth shown by him when raising a small human cub in the first part of the Ice Age. When, to everyone’s surprise, small tironazavriks hatch from eggs, which seem to have died out, it becomes clear that meetings with their adult relatives - dinosaurs, cannot be avoided.

The real mistress of these same eggs breaks out of the dungeon, where, it turns out, a reserve of prehistoric dinosaurs has been preserved, and takes its cubs along with the unlucky sloth. A motley flock goes in search of his friend and finds himself in a world crowded with dinosaurs. Here the incredible adventures of the whole company begin. As in the previous parts, the ridiculous stupidities of an absurd sloth combine practically incompatible characters into one link.

In terms of fees in the first weeks of the rental, the third part of the Ice Age surpassed the part at number two, which was called Global Warming, more than doubled, collecting $ 67.5 million. To date, the total fees of the “Dinosaur Era” have exceeded the mark of 550 million dollars with a budget of 90 million - a definite success.

A new character appears in the “pack” - a schizophrenic affection named Buck. Buck grew up in this environment, survived and adapted. He learned to handle dinosaurs, but lost his mind. During the cartoon, Buck either talks on the stone like on the phone, then marries a pineapple. By the way, this role is duplicated by Vadim Galygin from Comedy Club.

According to the creators of the cartoon, they tried to create the brightest and most colorful underground world to diversify the endless white landscapes of the “ice age”.

But the main highlight of this part, as well as the two previous ones, is naturally a rat-squirrel named Scrat, who, in his eternal pursuit of a coveted stomach, meets a pretty flying squirrel Scratti. She differs from Scrat by cunning and the presence of brains. Their joint pursuit of food gradually turns into a love affair. Together they increase the rating of the cartoon and add to it a good tens of thousands of viewers around the world.

By the way, Scrath, beloved by the audience, could “die” even before the first part was released on the director’s editing table. Then, in 2002, the directors Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldana seriously thought about removing this secondary character from the picture.

Cartoon for children with jokes

Cartoon "Ice Age 3" MirSovetov can safely be attributed to children's cartoons. Fun adventures of funny little animals, colorful special effects that look especially beautiful in 3-D format. In the “Dinosaur Era” a couple of jokes at all are slipping away, however, most likely, the children simply will not understand their true meaning.
Already announced plans to create a fourth part of this world loved by the audience called "Ice Age". According to the producers, in the continuation of the cartoon characters will appear before us in the form of animated characters of a modern historical museum.

As already mentioned, “Ice Age” will appeal primarily to children, somewhere under 16 years old. Perhaps some attractive moments will be found in the picture by their parents. But the general feeling is such that it would be time to end this endless adaptation of the adventures of prehistoric animals - the plot is 100% used and does not promise anything new.

One of the most popular cartoons of our time is “Ice Age”. The characters of this animated franchise captivated the small viewers and their parents at first sight. Who are they: the heroes of the Ice Age?

Ice Age (cartoon): characters. Mammoth manny

The protagonist of the animated franchise is a non-communicative, but terribly “correct” and decent mammoth Manfred. Manny hides behind his gloomy mask his sensitivity and kindness, as well as the great grief that he had to endure, because once a human tribe killed his family.

Manny always feels responsible for those whom he “tamed”. Despite the fact that the sloth Sid from the very beginning caused him one irritation, the mammoth continued to protect him and rescue him from dangerous situations. In the following parts, Manny found a wife for himself and they even had a daughter.

Ice Age: Character Names. Sloth Sid

Sloth Sid is the main star of the Ice Age. Without this funny and very hilarious character, a franchise would hardly have enjoyed such success.

Sid is annoying and talkative. He gives out a million words a minute, so even his own family could not bear him. After the relatives left the lisping sloth to the mercy of fate, he sided with Manny and this couple did not part anymore. However, Sid remained complex about his family - he was trying to get new relatives at all costs. So his “adoptive” children turned out to be three dinosaurs.

Saber-toothed tiger Diego

Diego appears in the very first part of the cartoon "Ice Age". The characters Manny and Sid meet him near a human settlement when they decide to pick up the lost baby and take it to his "pack." From the very beginning, Diego planned to ambush a sloth and a mammoth, select a child, and kill his fellow travelers. But on the way the main characters became friends, so Diego saved them and became a regular member of the comedic trio.

In subsequent parts, Diego meets the same bold and independent tigress and they begin a romance.

Saber-toothed squirrel

Another “decoration” of the film is a silly saber-toothed squirrel. The center of her universe is the acorn. She chases him around the world with bulging eyes. It is because of this acorn that all troubles begin: tectonic shifts, global warming, earthquakes and other natural disasters.

In the third cartoon, Skrath has a partner - a female saber-toothed squirrel named Skratti. In the future, they create all the outrages together and still can’t agree on who will possess the treasured acorn.

Mamontich Ellie

What are the characters of the "Ice Age" from the first part, we figured out. In the second part, another mammoth joins the main company - a girl named Ellie.

Ellie and Manny are the last mammoths on Earth. Since Ellie's parents died early, she was raised by two comedic possums. As a result, the animal seriously believed that it belongs to the class of possums and for a long time led the same way of life. Ellie’s habits of hanging upside down looked especially comical.

Ellie is very sociable and emotional. She immediately became attached to her new friends, especially to Manny. In the final of the second part, the last two mammoths on Earth become spouses. And a little later they have a daughter, Peach.

Possum duet

The cartoon "Ice Age", whose characters are well known to both children and adults, would not be so ironic and fun if it were not for the duet of possums.

Opossums are real animals, unlike the saber-toothed squirrel, which was invented by the creators of the franchise. Crash and Eddie are characterized by a rude sense of humor, impudence, and also love to misbehave. Manny from the very beginning was not enthusiastic about such "relatives" of Ellie. But Crash and Eddie sincerely loved and cared for the mammoth, so they had to put up with their presence in the "pack."

With the birth of Peach, the two possums settled down a bit and turned their attention to the little mammoth.

Mammoth Peach

In the cartoon "Ice Age", the characters of Manny and Ellie started a family, and then became the parents of a lovely girl named Peach.

The birth of the girl brought revival to the company of the main characters - all attention was switched to the child. Especially over Peach her father Manny was shaking. Over time, the mammoth grew up into a beautiful young lady, who began to get angry when she was overly patronized. In addition, Peach fell in love for the first time in his life, and her chosen one was not the best representative of the mammoth family.

Mole louis

A mole named Louis appeared only in the fourth franchise film. He is a close friend of Peach. As often happens, the girl never took Luis seriously. However, this did not stop Louis from jealous of Peach to her beloved Ethan.

Little brave Louis for the sake of "the lady of his heart" was ready to fight with anyone - even with the pirate captain Gatt himself! However, this character remained the hero of only the fourth series - in the fifth film, Louis does not participate in the adventures of the main characters.

Other characters

In the animated series Ice Age, the characters changed from film to film. Over the 14 years of the franchise's existence, the main characters took part in the adventures of the protagonists: the saber-toothed tigress of Shira, the annoying grandmother of Sid, the stupid brothels of Karl and Frank, the sloths of Jennifer and Rachel, as well as many other animals.

In July 2016, the fifth cartoon, codenamed “Clash is Inevitable,” will be released on the big screens. And in this part even more new and comedic characters will be involved.

You do not remember what is the name of a sloth from the Ice Age? Of course, the name of the sloth is Sid. It was the cartoon "Ice Age" that made the sloth so popular and famous. Although a lot of sloths in the "Ice Age", to put it mildly, can be called fiction. Even the name itself says that the sloth is a very slow animal. On earth, sloths are completely helpless, the average speed of his movement is about 150 meters per hour. Slower than a turtle. This fact, as well as many other features of the sloth in the cartoon "Ice Age" was ignored. Anyway…

Sloths are mammals of the order of the not-toothed, have a body a little more than half a meter and weigh from 4 to 8 kg. The front legs of the sloths are longer than the hind legs, fingers with thick sickle-shaped claws. There are two-fingered and three-fingered sloths. Thanks to the movable neck, the sloth can rotate his head almost 270 degrees. The sloth is covered with grayish-brown long hair, in which blue-green algae often develop, giving a greenish tint. Due to slowness, a moth - a butterfly-firefly - often starts and lives in the wool of sloths.

Sloths are widespread in Central and South America. Before coming, people also inhabited North America. Sloths dwell on trees, masking themselves in foliage. Sloths are very harmless animals - they can neither escape from predators, nor protect themselves. But, despite this, in some areas sloths are numerous. Sloths feed mainly on the leaves of trees. Such food is nutritious and low-calorie. In addition, the leaves are very difficult and slowly digested (about a month). Interestingly, the weight of a well-fed sloth by 2/3 consists of food located in his stomach. Sloths sleep up to 15 hours a day in the trees, catching their paws on a branch. Little sloths hold on to the mother, clinging to the wool.

The ancestors of the modern, were giant sloths - megateria. In size, they were similar to elephants and ate exclusively plant foods. Megateria became extinct over 10 thousand years ago. It is believed that primitive people used some species of these giant sloths as a meat pet.

The three main characters, known from the cartoon "Ice Age" and its sequels, are based on the image of animals that really lived in the ice age, which began in the Pleistocene era. However, a saber-toothed squirrel named Skrat, obsessed with acorns, turned out to be a scientific surprise.

Mammoth manny

Manny is a woolly mammoth ( Mammutus primigenius), a species that lived about 200,000 years ago in the steppes of East Eurasia and North America.

The woolly mammoth was about the same size as, but had several distinguishing features, including a very thick fur all over the body, consisting of long protective hairs and a shorter, thicker undercoat. Manny was a reddish brown, but the color of the other mammoths ranged from black to light.

The mammoth's ears were smaller than that of the African elephant, which helped him maintain body heat and minimize the risk of frostbite. Another difference between mammoths and elephants: a pair of extremely long tusks, curved in an arc around the muzzle. Like modern elephants, mammoths used tusks along with their trunk to raise food, fight predators and other mammoths, and move objects as needed. The woolly mammoth fed on grass, including sedge, since there were few trees in the grassy steppe landscape.

Sid is a giant ground sloth

Sid is a land sloth from an extinct family Megatheriidae, whose representatives were associated with modern three-fingered sloths, but they were significantly different in appearance. Giant land lazy lived on Earth, not on trees, and had a huge size (close to the size of mammoths).

They had large claws (about 65 cm long), but they did not use them to catch other animals. Like those sloths that live today, the giant terrestrial sloths were not predators. Recent studies of petrified excrement of sloth indicate that these giant creatures ate tree leaves, grass, bushes and yucca. They appeared in South America, but gradually migrated north and reached the southern regions of North America.

Diego Smilodon

Diego's long fangs characterize his personality: he is a saber-toothed tiger, more accurately known as smilodon (extinct subfamily - Machairodontinae) Smilodons were the largest cat that ever roamed our planet, lived in the Americas during the Pleistocene. They look more like bears than cats, with heavy, stocky bodies made to hunt bison, tapirs, deer, American camels, horses, and land sloths like Sid. “They were able to attack quickly, and perform powerful, and deep bites in the throat or upper neck of their prey,” explains Per Christiansen of Aalborg University in Denmark.

Sabretooth Squirrel Scrat

Unlike Manny, Sid, and Diego, the Scratch saber-toothed squirrel, which always chases acorns, is not based on a real Pleistocene animal. It was a funny image from the imagination of the creators of the cartoon.

However, in 2011 in South America, a strange fossil of a mammal was discovered, which is very similar to the Scrath protein. “A primitive mouse-sized creature lived among dinosaurs about 100 million years ago, had a snout, very long teeth and large eyes - just like the popular animated character Scrat,” the Daily Mail reports.

Other animals that lived in the ice age

  • Mastodons;
  • Cave lions;
  • Indricotheria
  • Woolly rhinos;
  • Steppe bison;
  • Giant short-faced bears, etc.

Related Publications

  • Manny (English Manny), full name Manfred - woolly mammoth. Protects Sid from rhinos, and when a human infant accidentally appears in his care, he sets off in search of his relatives to return the baby to them. At first he perceives his companions - Sid and Diego as a burden, but gradually gets used to them and begins to feel responsible for them. He considered himself the last representative of his species on Earth until he met Ellie, who soon became his wife. Waiting for the appearance of his first child, Manfred literally goes crazy, is even more nervous about this than the future mother herself. And in the future, he just “shakes” over his daughter, trying to protect her from everything in the world. Often "complexed" about its size, offended if it is called "fat." In the fifth film, Manny is true to himself, not wanting to acknowledge his daughter's perfect independence and not particularly endorsing her chosen one. But after the catastrophe averted, he agreed to let Peach go, and Juliana finally began to count for her own son.
  • Sid (English Sid), full name Sydney - An absurd, chatty, lisping and ever-annoying sloth (besides frankly neglecting personal hygiene). It’s not stupid at all (most of the ideas come to him’s head), but because of his frivolity and sloppiness endlessly gets into trouble, and Manny and Diego now and then have to rescue him. Friends treat him like a big child - they often frustrate him, but love; according to Diego, Sid is "the sticky, sticky substance that holds our flock together."
    Sid always has a cherished dream - to have his own family. Little by little, this dream grows into a real psychosis: having taken three dinosaurs for his upbringing, he flatly refuses to return them to his mother, because of which he falls into the dinosaur world and creates problems for friends who are forced to go to save him. In the fifth film, Sid falls in love with the geotopic beauty Brooke and is engaged to her.
  • Diego (English Diego) - a proud and independent saber-toothed tiger. At first, he acts as a secret enemy: he joined Manny and Sid to seize the baby and take it to his leader, seizing the moment. However, then Diego abandons his intention and becomes a full member of the company. Later, when Manny and Ellie were expecting a baby, Diego decided that he no longer had a place among them, since he was becoming too “soft-skinned” and decided to leave. But, having learned that Sid was abducted by a dinosaur, he, along with everyone, embarks on a rescue expedition. As a result, helping friends and fighting for them, Diego realizes that he has something to stay in their pack for. In the fourth part, Diego meets the beautiful pirate Shira; At first, their relationship is quite tense, but then the tiger begins to realize that it has fallen in love with it. In the end they become a couple.
  • Ellie (Eng. Ellie) - a young mammoth. Like Manny himself, she was left without parents very early, and she was adopted by a family of possums. As a result, Ellie got used to consider herself an possum and adopted all their habits, including fear of birds of prey and the manner of hanging on a tree upside down, with its tail catching on a branch. Manfred had to persuade Ellie for a long time that she was a mammoth (although she was still not used to the original point of view). At the end of the second film, Manny and Ellie become spouses. They are a very happy couple; although they argue all the time over any occasion, this is exactly the case when “the dear ones scold - they just amuse themselves”.
    Ellie became very friendly with Sid and Diego and, even when pregnant, did not want to stay safe on the surface, and together with friends went to save Sid. Despite some eccentricity, she has enough common sense, and Ellie looks at many things more wisely and calmly than Manny.
  • Peach (English Peaches) - mammoth, daughter of Manny and Ellie. She was born in the dinosaur world when the whole company was going to save Sid. Ellie gave her daughter such a name, considering her "sweet, round and fluffy," as she herself once told Manny. In the next film, Peach has already grown up and, like all teenagers, seeks to prove that it is quite adult and independent, because of which it constantly argues with its father. At the end of the fifth part, she married Julian.
  • Julian (Eng. Julian) - a young mammoth, groom Peach. He is funny, foolish and agile, but in fact smart, brave and honest. Manny was not happy that the young couple was going to live separately. At the end of the cartoon, Julian married Peach.
  • Shira (Eng. Shira) - Gatt's chief mate, a white saber-toothed tigress. For some unknown reason, she left her pack and joined the pirates. Gatt appointed her as his old-man for courage and strength; she faithfully served him, but later abandoned piracy because of her love for Diego. In the fifth film, Shira is already shown as his wife and girlfriend of the whole "old company".
  • Granny (English Granny) - a female sloth, the grandmother of Sid. Old, but quite peppy old woman. Pretty grumpy and malicious. Relatives consider her abnormal, but in reality she, like her grandson, is much smarter than she seems. In the fifth film, she falls in love with the geotope rabbit-strongman Teddy. Granny's true name is Gladys.
  • Crash (English Crash) and Eddie (English Eddie) - two hooligan possums, stepbrothers of Ellie. Impudent and annoying, they always "get" everyone with their antics, but are sincerely attached to the named sister and take care of her in their own way. After birth, Peach transfers their care to her; she, in turn, perceives them as blood relatives. Acquainted with Buck in the dinosaur world, Crash and Eddie began to respect this indefatigable and fearless beast.
  • Louis (English Louis) - mole. Peach's best friend, secretly in love with her. Ready to protect her from any danger, and for her sake she’s not afraid to even challenge Captain Gatt to battle.
  • Scrat (Eng. Scrat) - a small male fictional animal - "saber-toothed squirrel." He has his own story and his own problems: he stubbornly pursues the same acorn - he either finds it, or loses it again. Almost never communicates with other characters, but their actions directly affect their lives: in one cartoon, his manipulations with the acorn cause the glacier to melt, in the other - flooding, in the third - they open the entrance to the dinosaur world, in the fourth they make whole continents budge , and in the fifth creates the solar system and destroys life on Mars.
    In the third film, Skrath has a new interest - the pretty Squratti squirrel, which becomes both the subject of his adoration and a rival in the struggle for the coveted acorn.

Characters appearing in individual films

    • Zeke - A small smilodon with gray wool, due to which it stands out against the background of its red brothers. Nosy, purposeful, aggressive and sincerely devoted to his leader. Despite this, he loses control over himself with a feeling of severe hunger.
    • Oscar - a tall and lean smilodon who doubts Diego's reliability and loves to ulcer over him.
    • Lenny - unlike other saber-toothed tigers, is homotherium. Big, fat and strong, with short fangs.

Neanderthals:

    • Runar (English Runar) - the leader of the tribe and widowed father of Roshan, torn between desires to find the missing son and take his people to a safe place during the cold weather.
    • Roshan (Eng. Roshan) - a human baby, the son of Runar and Nadia. Not yet capable of independent existence, but saved thanks to the timely help of Manfred and Sid.
    • Nadia (Eng. Nadia) - the wife of Runar and the mother of Roshan. Selflessly tries to save his son from saber-toothed tigers, as a result of which he dies, jumping into a waterfall.
  • Charles (English Carl) - an embolotery with the nasal bone bent back. Stupid, but at the same time strong, aggressive and vengeful. Always walks with his friend Frank. When they are together, they are able to compete even with a mammoth.

    • Flynn (English Flynn) -

The three main characters, known from the cartoon "Ice Age" and its sequels, are based on the image of animals that really lived in the ice age, which began in the Pleistocene era. However, a saber-toothed squirrel named Skrat, obsessed with acorns, turned out to be a scientific surprise.

Mammoth manny

Manny is a woolly mammoth ( Mammutus primigenius), a species that lived about 200,000 years ago in the steppes of East Eurasia and North America.

The woolly mammoth was about the same size as, but had several distinctive features, including a very thick fur all over the body, consisting of long protective hairs and a shorter, thicker undercoat.

  • Mastodons;
  • Cave lions;
  • Indricotheria
  • Woolly rhinos;
  • Steppe bison;
  • Giant short-faced bears, etc.

Historically, the animation in the entire history of its existence preferred not the routine human being, but the flora and fauna. Over time, this trend slowly gave way to favor innovation, films with toys, monsters, and technology appeared. So the choice of Blue Sky Studios to show the life of animals in the Cenozoic era does not seem like such an original decision, but coupled with the popularity and budget constraint, frankly inferior to the more advanced Pixar, it’s a complete adventure. However, from the moment of its release to the present, “Ice Age” has remained a favorite among ordinary viewers, many sequels have been released, and for the studio it is still the highest achievement.

Despite the fact that a cartoon is a purposefully children's genre by definition, adults also love them and enjoy watching them. In the Ice Age, it is precisely the mature questions that are clearly emerging. It turns out that this is only at first glance a cartoon. Even without careful and meticulous viewing, one wonders how much meaning a simple cartoon can contain. This is an absolutely open story, where each hero is almost a direct projection on ordinary people. There is a large child, Sid, and the sad mammoth Manny, and the cunning Diego. Each of the main characters, in fact, differs from a person only in appearance, only in practice this approach has an important advantage - it is so interesting for a child to watch. By the way, when a human cub appears in the plot, events reveal previously latent psychologism. Characters are revealed deeply, sometimes implicitly, but anyone will understand them. It becomes clear why in the life of Manny there remains a place of one melancholy, why he so eschews communication and traveling with the baby. The key to the solution is one scene in a cave with rock paintings, which can strangle to tears. From this it turns out that the person became the cause of his sadness.

But the mammoth nevertheless agreed at the beginning to take the child to people in company with Sid. And, as it turns out, not for the annoying sloth to fall behind and go his own way. During the campaign, the story acquires a subtle inner meaning, namely that Manny is “re-educated,” as it were, casting aside the shackles of the past and accepting the rule “You must live now.” Now, friends are next to you, now a cute person next to you, now a big event in geology is forming around you - in fact, the Ice Age itself. And now you are shaping your future. A real drama where the creature is given the philosophical attitude to live. The story of the re-education is related through the story of Diego's saber-toothed tiger, who joined the brethren, but it raises important questions about its logic.

But the film is still not a drama in the genre plan, many honor its humorous features. The studio itself refused to launch the project into production until it was set up for a family comedy. A little sense is hidden here in Side. The sloth plays the whole movie himself, and does not change the mask. This character contains and more than makes fun of a storehouse of classical vices: narcissism, cowardice, talkativeness, arrogance, clumsiness, uncleanliness. The infantile uncle, about whom they say “Spoil any photo,” Sid can make laugh with his stupid face. And if it comes to clumsy actions and dialogues, where, for example, a sloth can covertly call two healthy rhinos stupid, then the concept of comedy in the picture is self-confirming to the delight of the viewer.

Scriptwriters subtly pironirovany over human civilization and in addition to the main characters. Echoes of popular culture were deliberately emphasized by passing and plot-important scenes: a UFO in a glacier, epic-painted American football, and the very fact that people did not know how to talk in those distant times. As for the squirrel Scrat, who, in an attempt to hide / eat an acorn, finds adventure on his own head and has practically no effect on the story: he certainly adds humor to the film. However, it was he who became the real symbol of the “Ice Age”, by which any ignoramus will recognize the franchise. Of the huge number of works of cinema, such fingers count.

Graphics and animation are, by and large, the only flaws of the film. However, the studio’s carte blanche was unlikely to allow the creators to make a picture like the Monster Corporation with a 115 million budget, because Blue Sky had only 59 million. Several were able to compensate for the meager and monotonous graphics with striking action and a detailed drawing of the characters. For the studio, the film became a business card, and no other project could repeat the success of the first. The charges are indicative of this: Ice Age missed ahead only the sequels and the Rio series, which is 9 years younger. The ratings are still more obvious.

The creators did not discover America with their creation. The story is typical, redrawn repeatedly. But with a soul and a rational approach, I managed to make a kind, instructive cartoon. Here, animals are one of the most memorable, and people are not creatures trembling. Nice and fun.
